The Hounds Of The New Townberry Hunt, 19th Century by JOHN EMMS (1843-1912) Large 19th Century portrait of the the New Townberry hounds, oil on board by John Emms. Excellent quality and condition study of the New Townberry hounds resting in their kennels. Superb example of Emms painting depicting the pack at rest probably in the region of the New Forest where Emms was commissioned to paint frequently. Presented in its gilt swept frame. Signed, Provenance: A private UK collector Measurements: 20" x 15" framed approx Artist Biography John Emms worked as an assistant to Frederic Leighton in London before setting up his own studio. In 1888 he settled in Lyndhurst in the New Forest where he specialised in hunting scenes and dog portraits. He exhibited frequently in London from 1866 to 1889, particularly at the Royal Academy and the Suffolk Street Gallery. He was a member of the Southampton Art Society.
