About the Item

From the easel of New England painter, Anita Loomis, “The Marker” is a 20 x 20 x 1.5 inch oil painting on canvas that captures a scene from a park that was once the site of an old paper pulp mill. Remnants from old building stands as a curiosity among the trees and flowers that are now home to birds and animals along a river. The sophisticated colors of this painting feature orange, and blue-green grassy fields behind a leafy, olive-green shadow area. This painting has expressive brushwork and impasto texture characteristic of Anita’s paintings. This is an opportunity to collect a rare painting by this artist that is more impressionistic and smaller than her usual paintings. The Marker is signed by the artist on the back and along the left gallery edge. Anita Loomis is a painter who works from her studio in Kittery, Maine. Her series of paintings often focus on communication or the natural world and are executed in an expressionistic style. Color and light are the main elements that drive this artist to paint, and she will often make use of gilding and stencils in the execution of her works. Loomis earned her BA in Studio Art from Framingham State University in Massachusetts, and her MA with a concentration in Arts Management from the University of Central Florida. She worked in the field of architectural stained glass for fifteen years and has focused on painting since 2004. She lives and works in Kittery, Maine. Her work has been exhibited at Miller White Gallery, South Dennis, MA; Fountain Street Gallery, Boston, MA, and various exhibitions in New England, Pennsylvania, China, and Japan. Her work is collected privately. Loomis is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.
