Harold Kitner was born on May 18, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son of Isaac and Frieda Kitner. He obtained his MA from Case Western Reserve University in 1947. Kitner was a postgraduate from Cleveland Institute, Ohio University, Cleveland College, Washington and Lee University. He obtained his Doctorate from Kent State University. Exhibition: Harold Kitner - Active / Figure / Exaltation at Kent State School of Art Gallery in Kent, Ohio in 2014.
Harold Kitner taught for over 30 years at the Kent State University School of Art.
Harold Kitner began teaching art and art history at Kent State University in 1947. During his career, he served as Director and Chairman of the Fine Arts Division. Kitner played a significant role in creating the Art School’s core program, organizing the Kent State Arts Festival, and the Blossom Festival School. He also served as President of the Kent chapter of the American Association of University Professors, and was an art critic for the Akron Beacon Journal. In 1967, Kitner became Kent State University’s first Faculty Ombudsman, officially titled Dean for Faculty Counsel. He held this position until 1974. At the time of the Kent State shootings, Kitner’s position as Ombudsman meant that he was involved in many of the decisions regarding University administration in the weeks and months following the Kent State shootings. John Edward Bale, was born at Low Farm House, Pattesley-cum-Oxwick,
South Creake, Norfolk on 27 July and baptised at South Creake on
1 August 1834, eldest child of John Edward Bale (1803-27 April 1862),
a farmer of 620 acres, and his wife Mary née Branford,
who married at Horningtoft, Norfolk on 27 November 1833. In 1841,
a 6 year old, living at Low Farm with his parents, 35 year old John and
28 year old Mary, and his two sisters, Mary 3 and Esther 1. In 1861,
a 26 year old 'artist architecture' boarding at 11 Bulstrode Street,
Marylebone, London but in October 1863, he was an Ensign by purchase
in the 1st West Indian Regiment. As a lieutenant, whilst on a tour of
duty in West Africa, Surgeon Major Augustus Frederick Elliott (born 1834),
kept a diary (now at Duke University Library) which is embellished with
calligraphy and watercolour titles by Bale. During this tour, Bale was
promoted to Captain and retired from the army in 1881 with the rank of major.
Bale married at Christ Church, Ealing on 10 November 1868,
Charlotte Gordon Lee née Johnson (c1847-1910).

Biography: Koekkoek Hendrik Barend, often signing as Hendrik Barend (H.B.) Koekkoek, in the realm of 19th-century art, emerges as a captivating painter born in Amsterdam on November 23, 1849. A scion of the esteemed Koekkoek family, he gained renown for his landscapes and woodland scenes, following in the artistic footsteps of his father, marine painter Hermanus Koekkoek.
Barend Hendrik Koekkoek’s life unfolds with a certain mystery, his artistic journey shaped by training from his father and, likely, his uncle Marinus Adrianus. In 1878, he tied the knot with Carolina Allardina Cornelia Pierson and ventured into the artistic scenes of Hilversum and Brussels, simultaneously opening an art dealership in Amsterdam.
Around 1882, the call of London beckoned, echoing the path paved by his brother Hermanus Koekkoek the Younger. In England, he painted landscapes near Guildford, akin to his cousin Pieter Hendrik Koekkoek. The latter part of his life remains shrouded in obscurity.
Barend Hendrik Koekkoek’s artistic style, steeped in the romantic tradition of the Koekkoek family, adorned canvases with landscapes, woodlands, and marine scenes. His London sojourn witnessed the creation of winter landscapes with towering trees, showcased in exhibitions across Dutch cities. He breathed his last in London before 1909.

Figurative art, as opposed to abstract art, retains features from the observable world in its representational depictions of subject matter.
