About the Item

Ashoke Mullick - Woman by the Moonlight - 36 x 50 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. While a woman romantically perches herself by her house window, under the moonlight her man played a "Tuba" ( brass instrument) to amuse and entertain her. She feels angels hovering over her head as she listens in bliss to the wonderful Music under the moonlit night . Ashoke Mullick , has been painting since the last 45 years . His works are predominantly preoccupied with themes around woman and her activities , interaction and relationship with man and the environment . She is often dressed in an Indian Sari , with red ribbons on her hair, gazing out of the window awaiting her loved one or daydreaming about her love and life. The Bengali culture has a strong influence in Mullick's works where he incorporates stories from Rabindranath Tagore's great books like 'Charulata' .Mullick has often made his woman gaze out of the window, sheltered in her big house and wondering and longing for the outside world; so much so that she tries to see the world through her binoculars . Style: Ashoke Mullick is considered one of the leading painters from the Bengal School of Art. Mullick combines a sense of satire with contemporary conditions. His paintings focus strongly on the ordinary man and the contradictions he faces. He uses colours like greens and blues to depict a largely urban India. His paintings also includes a strong focus on the ordinary person – more specifically womankind and the contradictions it faces. The artist likes to portray the contemporary age where people have lost the human touch and have become increasingly impersonal in their behaviour. As a painter, he touches on these facets where customs are not being followed and the link between now and the past is getting hazy. He's carved out a niche for himself with his juxtaposition of real and unreal imagery infusing his canvasses with bold, vibrant imagination and certain energy, which is extremely appealing. Mullick has been painting for the last 30 years. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1957, Calcutta. Mirror Couple, Acrylic on Canvas, Painting, Red, Green, Blue Colors "In Stock"
By Farhad Hussain
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Farhad Hussain - Mirror Couple : 36 x 48 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style : Farhad Hussain's colourful work that includes drawings and watercolours besides paintings on canvas, features day to day visual experiences of the middle class urban India. He endows his narrative with an iconography and personality through his figuration, their posturing, dress and the surrounding imagery. The drama of subtle complexities of human relationships and social environment are grounded with a sense of satire mixed with pathos. Farhad’s colours help enhance the brightness and aura of his paintings while he also partakes elements from traditions such as the formulaic textile patterns of Indian miniatures. His compositions are often set in a familiar drawing room or a social space, playing out with humour and sarcasm, the narrative psychologies of human life and encounters at various levels. This young artist who has also experimented with sculpture, has already carved a niche and an instantly recognizable individualistic style befitting his aesthetics and concerns. Farhad has chosen to use tempera on cloth for his works, the media allowing him to achieve the desired vibrancy of colours. A slow build-up of images and spontaneous flow of colour while balancing colour and composition simultaneously follow structured formatting. This meticulous planning in the composition and layout is the beginning of a process from where onwards it is very spontaneous and intuitive. Another technique used through out Farhad’s work is the method of applying colour: dot-by-dot till the entire area is completely covered. Various elements from miniature paintings, Kalighat paintings, Japanese prints and images from mass media are scrutinized, transformed and transferred on to the surface through the artists own style of expression.
