The Seven Wonders of the Classical World English School, early 20th century set of seven (7) 7 x oil paintings on paper mounted on board, framed Glass covering framed: 22 x 14 inches board: 21 x 13 inches condition: very good provenance: private collection, England 1. Great Pyramid of Giza (Egypt) Status: Still standing Built: ~2560 BCE Purpose: Tomb for Pharaoh Khufu Significance: The only surviving wonder, this monumental feat of engineering stood as the tallest man-made structure for over 3,800 years. Its precision and grandeur still awe modern architects and historians. 2. Hanging Gardens of Babylon Built: ~6th century BCE Purpose: Allegedly built by Nebuchadnezzar II for his wife Significance: Said to have been a marvel of terraced greenery, these gardens showcased advanced irrigation and architectural beauty—representing human ingenuity and love. 3. Statue of Zeus at Olympia (Greece) Status: Destroyed (5th century CE) Built: ~435 BCE Purpose: Honor the god Zeus in his temple at Olympia Significance: Made of ivory and gold, it exemplified the height of Greek sculpture and religious artistry. It inspired reverence and awe among ancient pilgrims. 4.
