George Oswalt
'A Metaphysicians Metaphor' by George Oswalt, Oil on Paper Painting

1995

About the Item

Through a dark landscape and veil of rain, a human figure emerges looking through glass. This mystical oil painting by George Oswalt evokes thoughts about life and death and the separation between the two. A vertical column of white and thin pink line separate the painting from a crystal vase of white lilies on a solid black background. The painting is affixed to a permanent custom-made wooden frame box with glass. "My paintings of figures and objects in vivid color are meditations on living in a hybrid world which has manifested into visual poems of beauty, yearning, time and space. I have spent years working in several series of paintings that deal with weightlessness, loss and life transitions. The imagery is intended to take the viewer on a journey of human yearning which is not merely marked by striving towards something but also by escaping from something." -- George Oswalt George Oswalt had his first one-man show in 1974 and since has shown in national and regional exhibitions including group and one-person shows. He received his MFA in 1993 from the University of Oklahoma. He has taught art in both high school and college over a 30 year period. Oswalt wrote an art review for the Oklahoma Gazette for two years and is currently painting full time. He is included in both private and public collections including the Fred Jones Art Museum in Norman, Oklahoma, the Goddard in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum in Shawnee, Oklahoma and the Oklahoma State Museum of Art in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

'I'll Be Back, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
'I'll Be Back,' by XVALA is a mixed media painting and colorful screen print with iridescent oil stick painting featuring the theme of the 'New World Order.' It was produced in 2015/16. The phrase 'I'll Be Back' is printed on the top and bottom margins of the work with the words 'New World Order' on the top margin. Three heads are stacked in the center of the canvas with the 'all seeing eye' on the top of the head. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

'Fenway Studio Window', by Susan Morrison-Dyke, Oil on Paper Painting, 2021
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
Susan Morrison-Dyke's 35.25" x 23.5" (paper size) Oil on Paper painting uses the device of a window to illustrate the boundary between interior and exterior worlds. The view from the interior or exterior is ambiguous and allows the viewer to interpret their own desired orientation. "Fenway Studio Window personalizes the experience of working in my studio during the longest days of a world pandemic," says Morrison-Dyke. This framed abstract painting features a variety of colors including creams, oranges, blues and lavenders. Susan Morrison-Dyke graduated with a BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University and received the James William Paige Traveling Scholarship, a prestigious 5th Year graduate program award. She was later awarded the Clarissa Bartlett Traveling Fellowship for Alumni at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Both awards allowed her to travel the world making a permanent impact on her work. Susan was highly visible in Boston’s explosive cutting-edge art scene where she was represented by Stux Gallery in both Boston and New York. She later moved to New York where she worked for Phyllis Kind Gallery and was represented by Richard Green...
