About the Item

This work celebrates the customs and folklore of Indigenous People / Eskimo native life. Illustrator Gianni Benvenuti shows a partially clothed Eskimo man lying on his back in a trance or dream state. The artist treats the subject's eyes as thin white strips. Standing atop his cheeks is a tiny Eskimo girl. She leans into his eye to communicate with the reposing unconscious man. In the man's left hand, we see a tiny moose in scale with the girl. This work was done on an assignment to illustrate a book on the Story-Teller "Eskimo Fairy Tales." It's masterfully rendered in a pulsating and ethereal post-impressionist style. Unsigned, unframed, in two parts
