Born in Epping, England in 1893, she lived and worked predominantly in London where she became a prominent member of several British arts clubs and societies. She first learned to paint in the Impressionist style of her father, but after a brief period of formal study with Walter Sickert in 1913 she renounced formal art schooling. Throughout her career, Orovida always remained outside of any mainstream British art movements. Much to Lucien's disappointment she soon turned away from naturalistic painting and developed her own unusual style combining elements of Japanese, Chinese, Persian and Indian art. Her rejection of Impressionism, which for the Pissarro family had become a way of life, together with the simultaneous decision to drop her famous last name and simply use Orovida as a ‘nom de peintre’, reflected a deep desire for independence and distance from the weight of the family legacy. Orovida's most distinctive and notable works were produced from the period of 1919 to 1939 using her own homemade egg tempera applied in thin, delicate washes to silk, linen or paper and sometimes embellished with brocade borders. These elegant and richly decorative works generally depict Eastern, Asian and African subjects, such as Mongolian horse...

Chelsea Water Tower: Abstracted Cityscape Painting of New York City Skyline
Located in Hudson, NY
Cityscape painting on linen of iconic New York City water tower against an abstract golden yellow and soft green sky "Chelsea Water Tower" by Hudson, NY based artist, Ricardo Mulero 24 x 20 x 2 inches framed, Painted in 2018 Excellent condition, ready to hang as is Ricardo Mulero is fascinated with capturing the brilliance of light and the contrast of natural beauty with utilitarian landscapes. Here, he focuses on the romantic golden glow of the New York City skyline against an old water town. The soft yellow and green sky is composed of abstracted brushwork, contrasting the sold structures of the water tower and building in the foreground. The painting is complemented with a dark wood frame. It's in excellent condition and ready to hang as is. About the Artist: Growing up in Puerto Rico, I observed how people and nature could co-exist in harmony. Today, that principle guides my design and artistic work. My paintings are expressions that draw upon my life experiences, traditions, and surroundings. These unique environments inspire my oil paintings: Puerto Rico, where I grew up, New York City, Fire Island Pines...

Park Spring (Impressionistic Figurative Painting of Figures in a Park Landscape)
Located in Hudson, NY
Modern impressionist style figurative painting of a family in a colorful park landscape “Park Spring” painted by William Clutz in 1996 60 x 50 inches in a natural wood floater frame Wire backing, signed lower right This figurative oil on canvas painting was made in 1996 by William Clutz as part of a series of works called "Crossings". These paintings were a study of NYC dwellers engaging in the simple, daily activity of crossing the street. In this piece, Clutz captures a joyful moment of a mother and father walking in a sunlit park landscape with their young child. Bright sunlight radiates through lush fall foliage and fills the scene with a soft orange light. With broad, expressionistic brushstrokes, he discovers the extraordinary in the ordinary, by emphasizing the effects of sunlight on the human form. The painting is in excellent condition and is framed in a natural wood floater frame. More about the artist: In New York in the early 50's and 60's, abstract expressionism was the orthodox approach to art at the time. However, Clutz was committed to his personal style that focused on abstracted human figures within urban tableaux. Working in a context of artists who challenged abstract expressionism's popularity in New York, Clutz established himself as a significant proponent of abstract figuration. His paintings focus on human figures within the urban environment, often exposing the transfiguration of his subjects as they travel through the complex light of city streets or summer parks, as shown in two of his early works. Clutz's interest in working from direct observation of urban life was influenced by a long-standing interest in German Expressionism, as well as artists like Henri Matisse, Arshile Gorky, and Nicholas De Stael...

Look Back: Figurative Painting of Blonde Women with Rose Pink Museum Walls
Located in Hudson, NY
Figurative painting a blonde woman seated in front of a portrait at The Metropolitan Museum of Art "Look Back" painted by Judith Wyer, in 2020 oil on linen 20 x 15 inches unframed, 20.25 x 15.25 inches with natural wood frame Artist signature, verso This figurative painting was made by Connecticut based artist, Judith Wyer, in 2020. The painting captures a scene of a young blonde woman gazing at a portrait at the Metropolitan Museum. The woman in the 18th century portrait with the gilded frame seems to be the same age as the seated viewer, so, as the title suggests, we get the sense that the modern day woman is 'looking back' on what it may had been like to be alive when the portrait was painted. The piece is complemented with a natural dark wood frame and is in excellent condition. Artist Statement: Making a painting is a journey with an unknown destination.. In this respect, I consider my process much like a writer where the narrative seems to develop itself. The relationship of the word and the image is crucial. My work often begins with a photograph of a captivating image, a fleeting moment of everyday existence. From this I begin the process of developing the narrative which most often requires numerous edits and lengthy periods of just looking at the work and not touching it. This can take years. The work and I grow together which hopefully yields a provocative and intimate elucidation of the human condition. Once I arrive on a title, which is almost never at the outset, everything comes into sharper focus and the work's form and meaning come into closer agreement. . In fact, I never consider a piece finished. The challenge of one piece informs the next which sometimes leads to resurrecting an incomplete piece from the past. My attic is full of such unfinished works. The words of Diego Velazquez continue to guide me, "Es Verdad, No Pintura." Artist Resume: Judith Wyer is an artist based in Connecticut. Education Master of Fine Arts, Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, New York, 1994 Arts Student League, New York, New York, 1990-92 Private studies with Robert Kulicke, New York, New York, 1991 Intermittent Studies, National Academy of Design, School of Visual Arts, Art Students League, New York, New York, 1975-1990 Bachelor of Arts, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, 1975 Selected One Person Shows Recent Work, Hotchkiss Library, Sharon, Connecticut, 2019 “Presence,” Art Wall David Hunt Library, Falls Village, Connecticut, 2018 Winner’s Exhibition, Washington Art Association, Washington Connecticut, 2017 “The Art of the Bloom,” Minor Memorial Library Community Gallery, Roxbury, Connecticut, 2016 “Painting People,” Art Wall, David Hunt Library, Falls Village, Connecticut, 2015 “Getting There,” David Hunt Library Gallery, 2013 “Going Places,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2009 “Beyond Nature,” Bachelier Cardonsky, Kent, Connecticut, 2006 “Their Portraits and Their Works,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2003 “Humanity,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2002 “Life and Still Life,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2001 “Bravo,” Paris, New York, Kent Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 1999 “Underground, On the Ground, Above Ground,” Paris, New York, Kent Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 1998 “Visions,” Paris, New York, Kent Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 1996 Master of Fine Arts Exhibition, Chuck Levitan Gallery, New York, New York, 1995 “Classical Extremes,” Paris, New York, Kent Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 1995 Selected Group Shows “Seeing Red,” Meeting House Gallery, New Marboro, Massachusetts, 2019 “Girls”, Howland Cultural Center, Beacon, New York, 2018 “100!”, Howland Cultural Center, Beacon, New York, 2017 “Meeting Past,” Akin Library, Pawling, New York, 2016 “Meeting Past,” Akin Library, Pawling, New York, 2015 “Meeting Past,” Akin Library, Pawling, New York, 2014 “Just Drawing,” MidHudson Heritage Center, Poughkeepsie, New York, 2014 “On the Move,” Flinn Gallery, Greenwich, Connecticut, 2014 Invitational show, PUAB, Bethel, Connecticut, 2012 Invitational show, Front Street Gallery, Patterson, New York, 2012 “Still Life,” Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, New York, 2010 “Painted Cities,” Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, New York, 2010 “Closing Show,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2009 “Twentieth Year Anniversary,” Bachelier Cardonsky, Kent, Connecticut, 2008 “Memorial for Jacques,” Bachelier Cardonsky, Kent, Connecticut, 2008 “Small Works,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2007 “Diverging Similarities,” Chocolate Church Arts Center, Bath, Maine 2006 “Textural Rhythms,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2006 “Animals,” Paris, New York, Kent Gallery, Kent Connecticut, 2005 “Doors,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2005 “Small Works,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2004 “Bridge to the Country,” Kismet Gallery, New York, New York, 2003 “Chairs,” Paris, New York, Kent Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2003 “Still Life,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2002 “Urban Scenes,” Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, New York, 2001 “Works on Paper,” Exhibition Space 156, Brooklyn, New York, 2001 “Summer Show,” Holland Fine Arts, Nantucket, Massachusetts, 2001 “Small Works,” Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, New York, 2001 “Urban Imagery,” Bachelier Cardonsky, Kent, Connecticut, 2001 “The Painting in the Painting,” Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery, Kent, Connecticut, 2000 Selected Juried Shows Blue Mountain Gallery, New York, N.Y., Martica Sawin, juror, 2020 Blue Mountain Gallery, New York, N.Y., Eric Aho, juror, 2019 Blue Mountain Gallery, New York, NY, John Yau, juror, 2018 Blue Mountain Gallery, New York, N.Y., Priscilla Vial Caldwell, juror, 2017 Washington Art Association, Washington Ct., Eric Aho, juror, 2016 Blue Mountain Gallery, New York, N.Y., juried by Stanley Lewis, 2016 Washington Art Association, Washington Ct., juried by William Bailey, 2015 23rd Annual Small Works Exhibition, Washington Square East Gallery, New York, New York, juried by Tricia Collins, Tricia Collins Fine Arts, 2000 173rd Annual Exhibition at the National Academy of Design, New York, New York, 1998 Bowery Gallery, New York, New York, juried by William Bailey, 1997 Women in the Visual Arts, Erector Square Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut, juried by Susanna Coffey...
