The artist Alexis Portilla obtained his Masters of Fine Arts at Columbia University in 1990. His bold linear lines, use of symbols, pictographs and strong colors create atmospheric abstracts.

"This Dream Again" is a series created by contemporary artist Misha Gudwin for the group exhibition "Floral & Machine" at St. Paulus Church in Basel in 2023. The drawing conveys a fantasy-like, surrealistic reality, similar to a dreamlike experience. The images are exaggeratedly cute on the one hand and eerie on the other. It is as if we are peering into this otherworld through a shaped canvas frame, memorizing, with its shape, a map of the starry sky or binoculars.
The plot and characters refer to various creepy content from the web, somebody like animatronics - mechanical growth dolls or Furby toys. In conveying an absurdist world in this series, the artist was inspired by the visual internet subculture of Wiredcor. Creating such a magical world is an escapist attempt to escape from aggressive reality, an attempt to escape from it into a dreamlike world.

Misha Gudwin is a contemporary artist, born in 1995. His artistic practice is focused on studying the inextricable relationship between material and virtual (digital) objects. He explores the interactions of street and digital environment using found object, reflecting the industrial image of post-Soviet cities. Born in Fayoum to a big family of 5 brothers and sisters. In 1938 he meets the famous painter Hussein Bikar and he becomes his student in the Faculty of Arts in Qena. He remained much attached to his professor all through his life. Amita Bhatt received her BFA from the Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, India and her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland. Bhatt’s work has been exhibited at noteworthy venues such as the Bluestar Contemporary Art Center, Walters Art Museum, The Station Museum of Contemporary Art, and The Project Row Houses, all in the United States as well as Museo Pedro de Osma in Peru. Amita Bhatt has also been the recipient of several prestigious awards and recently served as a Grant Panelist on the National Endowment for the Arts. Bhatt's works are included in many important private and public collections.
Bhatt digs deep into world philosophies and mythologies to answer questions pertaining to our political as well as personal belief systems. Unafraid to explore uncomfortable territories, Amita mines from a range of sources to create hybrid creatures that are often symbolic of man’s psychological condition in an angst-ridden zeitgeist.
In exploring issues of identity and violence, Bhatt’s research led her to the beginnings of mankind. Most ancient creation myths claim chaos to be the central truth marking the beginnings of the world. Should turbulence then be viewed as essential to new beginnings? Bhatt’s characters are packed with irony, humor and indifference, and navigate intense color fields, all in search of wisdom and truth. They mirror the tumultuous times we live in, yet they know that there are deep Karmic mysteries that need to be understood and that HOPE in the end is what will sustain them.
