About the Item
Alec Waxman’s Gardiner’s Bay at 6:13 PM is an innovative seascape created with only 5 lines of color. Yet through those lines, it creates a broad, rolling horizon. The minuscule waterskiing figure makes the viewer seem small compared to the horizon. The minimalist approach to the painting makes the viewer feel calmed as if he can hear the waves of Gardiner’s Bay. The flat background is contrasted by great action, a man on a waterski, the perfect image of a holiday in Long Island.
Artist biography:
Raised in NYC, Alec Waxman is an American figurative painter. He graduated from Duke University in 2021 and is now based in Tel Aviv, Isreal.
Alec Waxman portrays subjects in unconventional social and intimate contexts. In his paintings, homoerotic undertones relay fantasy and dream-like imagery that conjures nostalgia and a sense of fun. In addition to producing figurative work, Alec plays with abstraction in color and form in seascapes that are inspired by time spent on and around Gardiner’s Bay, NY.
