A fine pastel winter landscape of Dublin, New Hampshire looking east toward Pack Monadnock by American artist Alexander Robertson James (1890-1946). James, nephew of writer Henry James, was born in Cambridge, MA, studied painting while living with Abbott Thayer for six years and then further studied with Frank W. Benson. During the first two years of his marriage (1918-19) he lived and painted in Santa Barbara, CA. James then settled in Dublin, NH where he remained until his death in the 1940’s. James was known for his portrait, figure, and landscape painting. Pastel on paper, signed lower right, and housed under glass in a carved giltwood frame. Dimensions:17 in H x 23 in W, sight; 27 in H x 32.75 in W x 1.75 in D, framed.
