Andrew Osta is a Ukrainian-born painter, author and songwriter. He immigrated to Toronto, Canada at the age of 11. Graduated from the University of Toronto in 2004 in Computer Science and Philosophy. He began producing and displaying artwork six months prior to graduation as a method of self-therapy. He did not attend his graduation ceremony and instead travelled to New York, where he met established artists, sold paintings, and decided to pursue the career of a self-taught painter. From 2004 to 2011, Osta’s paintings were a blend of surrealism and automatism. He called the style “Subjective Surrealism”, stating that the interpretation of his drawings and paintings was completely subjective. His artworks contained dozens of symbols, each of which could mean different things to different people. In 2008, he helped establish the first ever “Healing and Counseling Through Art” program in Canada. He worked for one year as an assistant art therapist with Refugee youth. After leaving this job, he had always supported himself and his family from selling his paintings. In 2009, Osta joined Pablo Amaringo and other notable artists to exhibit in Iquitos, Peru at the 5th International Amazonian Shamanism Conference. In 2011, Osta moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and apprenticed under Canadian gold-medalist figure skater and artist, Toller Cranston. The two artists had a lot in common, both being prolifically creative in multiple disciplines. Osta’s work took on a more whimsical and colorful quality, a style others perceived as Magic Realism. Cranston and Osta had a number of joint exhibitions. In 2015, following Cranston’s death, Osta briefly worked and exhibited in Europe. In January of 2017, he had a one-man show at the Museum of the City of Durango, Mexico and later moved to the art capital of Mexico, Oaxaca. In 2023 he was selected to participate in the Biennale of Sacred Art in Menton, France. He now lives and works in Oaxaca with his wife and two children. He has written and published four autobiographical books.

Forest Calm, Bright Landscape Art, Vibrant Woodland Tree Painting, Light Art
Located in Deddington, GB
Nature and forest places are so healing meditative and peaceful. I love walking out to the woods in the summer. The sunlight is iridescent shining through the leaves creating beautiful shadows over the ground. I have always been entranced by the shadows and light in the forest. I create the effects of transient light by harnessing optical mixing and some of the colour theory employed by the impressionists resulting in a semi-abstract contemporary painting. An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on a deep edged canvas so no need for a frame. I use impasto techniques applied with a palette knife in multi layers, which creates a contemporary painting and if you look closely you can see the first layers applied in places.
Amanda Horvath is a contemporary artist whose works are available at Wychwood Art online and in our gallery. Amanda is influenced by the woods and moors of her home in the Peak District. Achieving a B A Hons (first class) in fine art Amanda went on to lecture in painting and printmaking. Now working full time as an artist from her studio her paintings are informed by the wild landscapes of her home. Renowned for forest scenes Amanda’s paintings are full of colour, texture and contrast, with an emphasis on delicate light effects and dramatic shadows. “I have a close connection to the natural world and painting is a response to the beautiful landscape, I attempt to capture the spirit of the land and the ethereal quality of light filtering through woodlands. Through my work I hope to impart the sense of peace and meditative calm I feel in these quiet places. This affinity with nature has grown from childhood and my past experiences” An important part of the creative process is to be absorbed in nature, so it begins with walking in the landscape making preliminary notes. These form the foundations of the work translated onto canvas in the studio. Harnessing some optical mixing techniques the paintings are created with layer upon layer of highly textured paint, worked expressively using palette knives and brushes, which results in paintings that lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. Her work has found homes...
