One of the large pieces of Gradwell's plein air paintings / painted on location of The Amalfi Coast of Italy. Actually an easel size painting yet painted on the ground horizontally in his approach to the mediums involved.
An expressive view of Positano featuring the Dome of the Cathedral. The view is 'idealised' incapsulating the essence of the place : color, light, architecture and topography.
' The immediacy of painting on location brings a truth that can never be recaptured back in the studio for many reasons. The marks ,colors and experience are truth that is always diluted when home in the studio. It's like seeing a musical artist live compared to listening to a recorded version of the song.
