📚 Artist Biography :
Antonio DeVity (1901–1993), born Umberto Marone in Naples, was a celebrated Italian painter known for his romantic depictions of Parisian life and architecture. Deeply inspired by his grandmother’s Parisian roots, he studied at the Liceo d'Arte in Naples and later lived in an attic near Place Saint-Michel in Paris, where he attended the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts. During that period, he adopted the pseudonym Antonio de Vity, both as homage to Paris and to cultivate a mystique around his work.
Upon returning to Naples, De Vity opened an art school that flourished by the late 1950s and became a magnet for Southern Italian painters. By the 1960s, his son Achille joined the atelier and continued painting under the same name, creating a rich and consistent body of work now collected worldwide.
His exhibitions spanned Brussels (1953), Marrakech (1955), Madrid (1956), and numerous shows across France. Today, Antonio De Vity’s artworks are prized for their romantic nostalgia and vigorous painterly technique.
