About the Item

Aris Knikker (1887 - 19662) Dutch landscape with cows resting underneath a tree and windmill on the horizon Signed lower right A. Knikker Oil on canvas Dimensions excl. frame: 29.5 x 42 cm. Dimensions incl. frame: 57 x 69 cm. In fair condition, Craquelure in the paintwork and the stretcher frame is visible. Would benefit from restoration. The painter Aris Knikker received his education at the Academy in The Hague and lived in that city for almost his entire life. Initially, he was a pottery painter at Rozenburg, then he switched to free unfettered painting. His preference was for landscapes, farmyards, waterscapes and views in the style of the Hague School. Aris Knikker has become a well-known artist from The Hague, partly because of his very strong atmospheric drawing, which shows great resemblance to the work of J.H. Weissenbruch. Much of Aris Knikker's earlier work was forged into work by J.H. Weissenbruch. Aris Knikker, like Jan Knikker jr. and sr. often also used the pseudonym H. Endlich. (galerieweidemeren)
