About the Item

Arthur Armstrong R.H.A. 1924-1996, was an Irish landscape, still life and abstract painter. Studied at the Belfast College of Art, travelled to England, France and Spain all influenced his style thereafter. He painted in the West of Ireland which apparently was his best works. This painting which is catalogued as 'Circle of ' is certainly his manner of subject, pallet and brushwork, hence the attribution. There is evidence of a signature but it is illegible. Armstrong's work is very collectable within the Irish community and this picture being oil on canvas is quite rare and therefore falls within his remit of collectable landscapes. The picture was found as canvas laid on board which was a later construction and it was strip lined to bring it back to it's original state, as oil on canvas. The picture is unframed, however this may change, also I have included a before conservation photo.
