About the Item

Rural Farm in Spring Snow 10 x 16 unframed, 15. 25 x 21.13 framed Here is a wonderful Bernard Corey when he perfected his paintings of farm views with the rolling hills defined by sections of snow, and looking thru trees, etc. Frame has one ding in it. Bernard Corey (1914-2000), known for his delicate New England landscapes, is considered one of the premier New England plein air artists of the twentieth century. He gained national recognition over the last 30 years for his beautifully rendered landscape paintings and is highly collected and coveted by collectors and artists alike. His paintings are in high demand and sell well at auction. He was born on September 3, 1914, in Grafton, Massachusetts, and he lived his life in the house that his grandfather built in South Grafton. In the early 1960s, he made the decision to dedicate his life to being an artist. He moved to Rockport for a short time to hone his skills and quickly established himself as a professional painter. Corey always drew his inspiration from nature. He felt that it was necessary to paint directly from the source as opposed to working in the studio or from photographs, and painted a variety of subject matter, in oils and watercolors, on location throughout New England. He was a member of The Allied Artists Society, The Salmagundi Club of New York City, The Guild of Boston Artists, The Hudson Valley (NY) Art Association, The North Shore Art Association, The Academic Artists Society, The American Artists Professional League, The American Watercolor Society, and The Rockport Art Association. His awards include: The Lazare Barth Award, North Shore AA (1964; Academic Artist Association First Place for watercolor (1964), Helen Gould Kennedy Award (1973), Morton Donald Cotch Award (1976), Samuel Armour Award (1981), N.E. Heritage Award (1988), Rockport Art Association (many awards including) Peg Leg Award (1971), Eliot Award (1972), Hibbard and the Geddes Awards (1974, 1978), Colburn Award (1977), Everett Award (1979), Salmagundi Club, NYC (many awards including) L.B. Seley Award (1971, 1976), Thumb Box Show (1974, 1977), Winsor & Newton Award (1986, 1987)); Hudson Valley Art Association, C.H. Davis Award (1981), Providence Watercolor Club, lst Prize (1972); Lester House, New York City, Guy Award (1977), Gold Medal (1978), Allied Artists of America, Gold Medal of Honor (1973); Academic Artists Assoc., Gold Medal (1975) and many more. Source; Online SELLERS STATEMENT I have been in the art business as an artist and collector since the early 80's. I'm currently offering select paintings from my collection like this one. In order to collect new paintings, I must sell off some of my current collection. For art that I have painted, it is derived in a variety of ways. I'm a responder. I respond to light, color, design, etc. and I love painting both outdoors on location and in the studio under a controlled environment. I try to convey an idea, mood or just simply a beautiful setting. I'm inspired by a wide variety of subject matter and styles of painting and do not adhere to just one way. My paintings have won numerous awards over the years and have been collected both nationally and internationally. They can be found in three museum collections, the White House Collection and many private collections.

"New England Farm, " Landscape Oil Painting
By John C. Traynor
Located in Westport, CT
This large landscape oil painting by John Traynor captures a scene in New England. Cows are visible in front of a long picket fence, with a red barn and house behind the fence and lush green trees on either side and along the hills in the horizon. Fluffy, almost abstracted clouds sit above the hills, with a patch of blue skies shining through toward the top of the image. The painting is 48" x 72", and 58" x 82" framed. It is professionally framed in a classic, antiqued, gold leaf frame. It is signed by the artist in the bottom right-hand corner of the canvas, and is wired and ready to hang. John C. Traynor's painting style is reminiscent of some 19th century painters and the Dutch Masters. He uses his knowledge of light and color to create a certain mood in each of his works. The creation of atmosphere is an important element in Traynor's paintings. Painting outdoors, on location, is a prime source of inspiration and ideas for his landscapes. John travels extensively, painting the landscapes around him. John was born in 1961 and spent his early years in Chester and Mendham, New Jersey. His art studies began at Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, and from there he furthered his education at Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut. He studied figure painting at the Art Students League of New York, as a merit scholar, with Frank Mason. Traynor continued his studies in Vermont with Mr. Mason on landscape painting, drawing with Carroll N. Jones Jr. of Stowe, Vermont and sculpture with Brother Jerome Cox...
