About the Item
Byron Z. Tripp's 'Passage of Dreams' is a surrealistic exploration of a dreamlike landscape that unfolds on a grand scale, spanning 60" x 40" of canvas. The painting is dominated by a rich, dark cavern that leads the viewer's eye to a vibrant path of red and orange hues, suggesting a fiery passage or a glowing core of energy. These intense colors contrasted sharply against the surrounding dark, almost oppressive, earth tones, evoking a sense of mystery and depth. The top portion introduces a tranquil strip of turquoise, reminiscent of a serene sky or distant water, adding a layer of calmness and providing a stark juxtaposition to the tumultuous scene below.
This piece vividly captures the essence of a journey through the subconscious, where the vivid path represents a beacon of hope or enlightenment amidst the shadows of uncertainty. The emotional weight of the painting lies in its ability to juxtapose despair with beauty, guiding the observer into a contemplation of their own inner landscapes and the light that can emerge from darkness.
About the Artist:

He adeptly handles various artistic mediums, from oil paint to Chinese brush calligraphy, with no canvas too large or small.
Original, 1-of-1.

"Path To The Lake" Oil on Canvas Landscape 20" X 16" by Hal Frater
By Hal Frater

Hal Frater passed away on February 3, 2008, just a month from celebrating his 99th birthday.
Hal Frater had a long and prolific career. He became a sought after commercial artist for over fifty years and was an early member of the well-know Society of Illustrators in New York City. All the while he would return to his studio and paint for himself rather than his clients. Yet he always retained his illustration roots in wanting to tell a story on canvas with his keen eye of observation on the human condition.
Often he would join fellow artists in informal sessions and paint from a model - no formal art school training but a mutually beneficial learning experience. His contemporaries that influenced him were Jack Levine, Raphael Soyer, John Sloan, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and Phillip Reisman...
