About the Item
Carlos Duarte is an emerging young artist at the National School of Fine Arts Institute in Montevideo, Uruguay. The gallery has taken on several pieces from several students at the
Institute and all proceeds from the sales are give to the students to pay for their students. This piece has a one minute nail hole where Carlos nailed it up to try to sell it at the Sunday market in Montevideo. It adds a bit of charm to the painting and says something about a struggling emerging artist.
The reason the watermelon is so large compared to the house is because his family grows watermelons for income. He said the watermelons are more important than the house. Without a good crop they would have nothing.I met him on a trip to Montevideo in 2019 pre-covid. Thanks for your support. This is a fixed price. The retail value of this piece is $800. The frame was handmade in Montevideo by Carlos.
