About the Item

Heller covers monumental and lesser-known works starting with Frank Lloyd Wright and tracing his design principles through his son Lloyd Wright, and students Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, and John Lautner. Heller uses his refined artist’s eye and virtuosic ability with oil paint to emphasize the groundbreaking hard-edged geometries used in these designs. Light and shadow play off the structures - creating new geometries - which further emphasize these architects’ outside-the-box thinking. This series is a glorious homage to a vibrant era of architecture in Southern California and depicts the staggeringly forward-thinking designs of some of the most innovative architects of the 20th century. Heller writes, “My goal is to evoke how striking these creations are; how they were groundbreaking for the time, but continue to inspire today.” Los Angeles, in both its landscape, light, and in the freedom that it embodies, continues to provides a unique and inspiring environment for artists. In his paintings, Heller pays close attention to how many of these projects are a collection of simple squares and rectangles cantilevered over LA’s unique terrain. The shadows cast by verdant plant life around the buildings, the hints of glorious Los Angeles vistas in the distance, the reflections in a pool - all these brilliant details come together to capture a ground breaking era of pioneering design and create masterful paintings. Danny Heller received his BA in paintings from UC Santa Barbara in 2004 and has exhibited extensively throughout Southern California as well as in New York City, Denver, Chicago, Washington DC, and Boulonge-Billancourt, France. In 2021, The Hilbert Museum of California Art acquired a painting for their permanent collection. His work has been published in CA Home + Design, American Art Collector, Southwest Art, CA Modern Magazine, Atomic Ranch Magazine, and was profiled on KCET. He currently lives and works in Desert Hot Springs, CA.

Jigsaw
By Nicholas Evans-Cato
Located in Fairfield, CT
Represented by George Billis Gallery, NYC & LA --Every painting begins with a place to stand. Sometimes I find one in seconds; sometimes the hunt goes on for many seasons. A canvas can easily frame the everyday. But my task is to trap the exceptional. Whether I am outside on site, or in the studio working from memory, painting is a personal, idiosyncratic process founded in obsession, and wonder. "My subjects are genuine locations. They all have names, and many have familiar and private associations. But my attraction to a particular street or building often comes, in part, from a suspicion that it is also, in a sense, nameless. I nurture enduring relationships with a terrain. But for me, a particular motif resonates when it seems eligible for a larger catalog of spatial forms. My paintings are less portraits of Brooklyn than pages in an expansive, borderless inventory of space and light. Their index-like titles and typically symmetrical or balanced compositions intend to hint at something of the monumental, appropriate to a classifying program. It is neither the landscape's planning nor its architecture which conjures the shapes I paint. Rather, it is its observation; it is how a place appears that forms a distinct typology. At street level, tight, box-like canyons of space offer motifs best captured in a square format, while aerial, panoramic views from a rooftop invite me to explode them in a wider canvas. When looking around to frame a wider view, the optical distortions of curvilinear perspective weave parallel lines into trajectories mirroring the dome of the sky. And on a clear day, the path of the sun traces analogous curves across it. Only turning achieves a panoramic view, and sky and street are themselves revealed as events. At times, glare, fog, rain and snow are also deliberately organizing factors in my choice of standpoint. I wait for and design with all of them. Land maps posit an objective viewpoint. But star maps...

Intersection 18x14, oil on panel City Scene Landscape The artist is a regional landscape painter working in oils and pastels whose subject matter varies from the mountains and desert of west Texas to the wetlands along the Texas coast, with a strong focus on Texas forests and trees. and to the Rocky Mountains The artist is in corporate and private collections around the world. Garrett Middaugh is a regional landscape painter working in oils and pastels whose subject matter varies from the mountains and desert of west Texas to the wetlands along the Texas coast, with a strong focus on Texas forests and trees. His palette is muted, stark, embracing the neutral colors of everyday experience. Avoiding the romantic, his landscapes are often painted at high noon or in the dead of winter. He paints in a fluid hyper realist style and feels most influenced by other landscape artists such as Neil Welliver and Rackstraw Downes. He sees landscape painting as a form of meditation, projecting outward, while solving equations and mapping the scene, realizing accuracy of objects and relationships, of light, color, textures, distances. "Landscape painting is for me a means of projecting outward, of meditating, examining the here and now of place. The process often feels similar to the satisfaction of solving math equations, intuitively realizing accuracy of objects and relationships, of light, color, textures, distances. For the most part I paint Texas. For several years I devoted a significant amount of time to painting its forests -- the complexity of forest alleviated my sense and the nearness and density of growth was comforting. I have also ventured into west Texas and Big Bend, and occasionally have attempted to capture the mesmerizing serenity of central Texas farm and ranchland." Nantucket Pathways
By Frank Corso
Located in Greenwich, CT
Frank Corso was born in Syracuse, New York. Taking a keen interest in art at a very early age, he was inspired to draw and paint the landscape of the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. He had the opportunity to have very fine art teachers in high school who also happened to be fine painters, artists George Benedict and Nick Todisco, and through their influence he began to polish his painting style from an early age. After attending Onondaga Community College for architecture, and then realizing that the rigid structure of Architecture was not for him, he began elective courses in Fine Arts at Syracuse University, and here, for the first time he began to study abstract painting and design with professors Frank Goodnow...

Til Paradise II
By Stephanie Peek
Located in Burlingame, CA
Til Paradise II is a stunning and sublime oil on canvas painting featuring falling or floating flowers from established California artist Stephanie Peek, who is celebrated for her contemporary romantic, poetic, and mysterious oil paintings, where light and drama often mingle to play central roles. The painting speaks metaphorically of the fragile beauty and ephemeral nature of the world. Peek's lush works are focused on exotic and wildflowers that reveal their beauty while suspended in silence. The main colors are periwinkle blue, grey, rose, and green. 'Til Paradise II' takes its inspiration from French Antoine Watteau. whose brief career at the turn of the 18th century, spurred the revival of interest in color and movement. Suffused with a theatrical air. The painting is created with the highest quality oil pigments on canvas. 72 x 72 inches...
