About the Item

David Carmack Lewis' beautiful original contemporary oil landscape "Generation" (2024) depicts an old, large tree stump with two young trees growing next to it, all in warm glowing light. This piece perfectly showcases David's mastery of shadows and lighting. The frame measures 25 x 25 inches. Artist Biography: David Carmack Lewis (b. 1965) is a contemporary American painter and muralist exploring the boundaries between fact and fiction, obsessing over personal narratives, landscapes, science, myth and the power of metaphor to elicit unsuspected meaning. Born and raised in Virginia, he has also lived in New York City, Maine, Arizona, Wales and Namibia, before finally settling down in Portland, Oregon. Mr. Lewis' oil paintings have won numerous awards and been widely exhibited in Museums, Art Centers and Galleries across the American West and beyond. He has painted large exterior murals for public and private entities throughout the United States. His work has been supported by grants from The Ford Family Foundation, The Oregon Arts Commission and The Regional Arts and Culture Council. His 2017 mural, "The Big Backyard" in Boise, Idaho, was included in Parade Magazine's survey of the best murals in each state alongside works by Sol LeWitt, Joan Miró and Keith Haring. In 2019, a collection of his work was featured as an exhibition at the Coos Art Museum in Oregon after twice winning the first place award in their annual "Expressions West" show. In December, 2023, he published a collection a 13 Ekphrastic poems by the French poet Michel Lagrange (born 1941) based on his artwork. Mr. Lagrange is an Officer of Arts and Letters in France and a Knight of the National Order of Merit. The collaboration with Mr. Lagrange continues.
