About the Item
It is an early April morning on the Main embankment in Würzburg. The alley along the embankment is depicted, in the ornament of shadows from the branches of still bare trees. Fresh green grass is breaking through along the road. The foreground and background are separated by a stone parapet of the embankment, on which stands an old lantern. Through the lace of branches, blocking the background, we see a clear ultramarine sky, an old house and a church, and a bridge over the Main, brightly lit by the sun. Behind it on the left is a mountain on which grapes are grown. The work is painted from life in one layer using the Alla Prima technique.
