About the Item

River Landscape with Figures (titled verso indistinctly) dated 1924 by Edmond Quinton (French 1892-1969) *see notes below signed lower front corner oil painting on board/ panel, unframed size: 9.75 x 13 inches condition: overall good and sound, some age related marks and old dirt, all four corners and edges worn from old storage no doubt. provenance: all the paintings we have by this artists came from the artists estate in France. Edmond was the son of Clemont Quinton (1851-1921). He was a painter, draughtsman and engraver. He trained with his father, Clément Quinton, already a renowned painter and they lived in Saint-Maur. Straddling the line between naturalism and impressionism, Edmond Quinton is often defined as a painter of countryside paintings. His bucolic landscapes have the revealing simplicity of a great mastery. In a few confident strokes, he immortalizes the French countryside and places himself among the major painters of the Marne Valley.
