Breakfast at Windermere, Original painting, Landscape, People, Figure, Shadow

About the Item

Breakfast at Windermere is an Original Painting by Eleanor Woolley. Inspired by a trip to the Lake District, this painting looks out onto Lake Windermere from a Breakfast room. Sunlight falls on the table laid for breakfast, and we look out onto the lake though tall, spacious windows. Small boats can be seen by the water's edge, and the beginnings of forests on the hillside. Lovely burgandy shadows draw us into the painting, and contrast with light blues and pinks of sun hitting table cloths and window frames. Interior pictures thanks to Vanitjan, Alexandercho and Wuttichai of Freepik. Her first true love for painting came from an inspirational Art teacher at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls where she started painting in Oils at thirteen years old. Here she learnt to paint using classic oil painting techniques, and was drawn to the figure from early life drawing lessons. During this period she was fortunate enough to work under Mary Fedden in her studio and with Portrait Sculptor Peter Lambda with whom she further developed her technique and composition. After gaining her BA Hons in Sculpture at Leeds University Eleanor travelled for some time in Asia before coming home to study Furniture making. Eleanor worked as a Cabinet maker and a Restorer before returning to Fine Art painting. Eleanor’s inspiration is taken from her surroundings where she has a love for the every day things, often passed by without a second thought. Eleanor’s paintings are vibrant, often painted Plein air and finished in the studio. Starting with bold outlines, many layers of paint are used to create the depth of colour. Her paintings are spontaneous, using washes of oil to create the desired form. Often finishing with a palette knife producing a pleasing texture. Her current work is inspired by the landscape of the Cotswolds, and contrasted with long shadows created by figures in urban landscapes.

Lost Between The Details, black and grey oil painting of city skyline
Located in San Diego, CA
"Lost Between The Details" depicts a open skies and city lights. This scene is of no particular place, but rather Carpenter's interpretation and compilation of various places he has visited. As a painter, I examine how the depiction of light contributes to our experience of paintings. The portrayal of light helps a painting to convey the atmosphere and mood of a scene, and is much of what enables a painting to convey depth and realism. Our perception of lighting features occurs largely through pathways in the brain that carry only black and white information, pathways which are distinct from areas that encode the colors and details we use to delineate specific objects. By painting in grayscale, I try to interact specifically with this region of our visual system, with the hope of conveying some of the spaciousness and emotional significance that light can imbue on scenes. Light, whether as the crisp contrast of a back-lit forest or the gray haze of an industrial landscape, is what defines a scene. Its power to communicate the feel of a place is the principle subject of my paintings. The Blue Azul Collection...
