About the Item
In this artwork, I sought to blend the boundaries between the tangible and ethereal—a surreal vista that pulls the observer into a dialogue between past and present. The ethereal face overlaying the serene landscape expresses a haunting presence of memory in our physical spaces.
I keep exploring ideas of memory and how the past impacts our present. Archeology proves daily that almost nothing is new, humans keep inventing and forgetting, we're not smarter just have more tools, built on tools our ancestors developed. We are haunted by our forebearers, genetically and historically.

Evy Olsen Halvorsen (aka Halvorsen Holstein) was born in northern Norway and cur-rently lives in Kingston WA. Evy and her parents immigrated in 1956 to the neighborhood of Ballard in Seattle WA. After graduation from High School, and some community college, Evy moved briefly to San Francisco before landing in Kitsap County with husband and daugh-ters. After raising her daughters, owning a couple of businesses, she continued her educa-tion at Cornish College of the Arts, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts, cum laude in 1999, in Painting and Printmaking.
