Roussel Signed: yes Size: 20 x 25.25 inches (height x width) Oil painting on board, unframed Condition: The painting is in good condition with expressive texture throughout; minor surface wear and edge scuffing present. Description: This charming 1994 oil painting by French artist Roussel depicts a peaceful harbour scene in a small coastal village, rendered in soft pastel tones with impressionist brushwork. The focal point of the composition is a curved stone pier that draws the viewer’s eye gently into the distance, where a row of whitewashed cottages and slate-roofed houses line the water’s edge. A few small boats, painted in pale tones of blue and grey, rest quietly in the still harbour, their reflections shimmering across the rippling surface. The light, airy palette—featuring sky blues, blush pinks, and sandy creams—suggests an early morning or late afternoon calm. Roussel’s distinct painterly style is evident in the broad, visible brushstrokes used to capture the movement of clouds, the reflections in water, and the texture of stone and timber. The overall effect is one of quietude and balance, ideal for collectors drawn to romanticised views of French villages and maritime life. This work is especially suited to admirers of impressionist seascapes and harbour paintings with a serene, nostalgic atmosphere. Its gentle colours and sweeping lines make it versatile for display in both contemporary and traditional interiors. While the exact location is unidentified, the architecture and subject matter suggest a harbour town along the northern French coast, possibly in Brittany or Normandy. A wonderful example of mid-to-late 20th century French impressionism, this piece offers both aesthetic beauty and a tranquil sense of place.

Roussel Size: 8.25 x 11.75 inches (height x width) Signed: Yes Watercolor painting on paper, unframed Condition: The painting is in good condition, with minor signs of aging. Provenance: All the paintings we have for sale by this artist have come from the artists estate and have had no previous owners at all. Description: In this delicate and atmospheric French watercolour by Roussel, a peaceful coastal inlet is rendered in soft, watery tones of turquoise, lavender, and earthy grey. Several sailboats rest quietly on the shore, their curved hulls lightly defined in ink and shadow, while a row of whitewashed houses with slate roofs lines the distant shoreline. A hazy sun hovers in the sky, bathing the landscape in a diffused, serene light. Bateau au Quai (Docked Sailing Vessel at Low Tide), Frank Myers Boggs, Landscape
By Frank Myers Boggs
Located in New York, NY
Frank Myers Boggs Bateau au Quai (Docked Sailing Vessel at Low Tide) Signed lower left Oil on canvas 15 x 21 1/2 inches Provenance: David Findlay Galleries, New York Charles R. Brown Fine Art, Locust Valley, New York The Impressionist Frank Myers Boggs spent his formative and mature years abroad and in 1923 became a naturalized French citizen. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, but moved as a young boy to New York, where his father was a newspaper executive. The artist began his career at the age of seventeen as a wood engraver for Harper’s, preparing illustrations for Harper’s Weekly and for an American edition of the works of Charles Dickens. It has also been stated that he studied with the portraitist John Barnard Whittaker (1836–1926). After working at Niblo’s Garden in New York with a scene painter named Vauglin, Boggs went to Paris to study scene painting. On his arrival there in 1876, he was unable to find anyone to instruct him in this field and instead entered the École des Beaux-Arts. Realizing that Boggs was not well suited to painting figurative subjects, his teacher Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824–1904) advised him to try some outdoor landscapes. Between 1877 and 1881, he concentrated on marine...
