A beautiful oil on canvas painting by Georges Gerbier. He was a French painter known for colorfully rich cityscapes depicting the times of her generation. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career depicting Champs Elysees. Here you see pedestrians, flowers, and cars along the street. People are scattered throughout with breathtaking colors. The details are magnificent as Gerbier captures the architecture of Paris so beautifully; you can feel the energy of the day and the excitement. The painting is signed by the artist lower left and it comes housed in original wood frame from the period with blue suede liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 19.5 x 24 inches Frame measures 23.5 x 28 inches Georges Gerbier was a French painter born in 1906, known for impressionist street scenes depicting popular locations in Europe. With the use of vibrant colors and impressionistic brushwork done with both whim and daring, his work is comparable to those of Jean Salabet, Jules Herve, Antoine Blanchard, and Edouard Cortes. In 1907, at the age of eighteen, he left his hometown Strasbourg and traveled to Paris, where he found employment in a large drafting company to work as a fashion illustrator. Adrion changed his mind upon arrival and rather than working for a large company, he decided to peruse his artistic career by traveling to London, Munich and Frankfurt. As the World War broke out he had to go to Berlin, where he studied as an engraver with Hermann Struck, who was also the teacher of Marc Chagall.
