About the Item
Bright and bold oil painting on canvas board of a shipping boat in front of the dock. This wonderful expressionist painting by Rockport, Massachusetts painter, H. Robert Smith is a great focal point for any room - certainly perfect for a shore/beach house! The painting is nicely framed and is signed by the artist in the bottom right corner.
Dimensions Without Frame: H 16 in. x W 18 in.
Artist Biography: (found in the "Artists of the Rockport Art Association", published in 1940)
Reverend H. Robert Smith. Born in England. Rector of St. Paul's Church, Maiden, Mass., 1924-36. Rector of Grace Church, Newton, Mass., since 1936. Painted in summer months at Rockport several years. Studied in the summer school in Rockport with Samuel Hershey and more extensively with Herbert Barnett. Exhibited in Rockport Art Association 1935-39. Paints for fun and likes it.
