About the Item
Skillfully executed courtyard scene by H. von der Planitz (german, 19th-20th cent ). Several trees cast dramatic shadows on the dirt floor of a courtyard, next to a colonnade that frames red doors. The artist's skill is evident in the depiction of the palm fronds, balusters, and windows. The use of light and shadows is suggestive of mid day or early afternoon, and the foliage, including grapevines, is indicative of a temperate climate.
Signed "H. v. Planitz" in the lower left corner.
