Peaceful landscape depicting the calm waters of a coastal slough with partly cloudy blue sky by Mildred Vejtasa Fenner (American, 1911-2005). Signed "M. Fenner" lower right. Presented in a rustic painted period wood frame with linen liner. Image, 22"H x 28"W. Mildred Vejtasa Fenner was born in 1911, in Adam, N.D. She was the eldest of six children. When she was 5, the family moved to Circle, N.D. Following high school in Circle, she attended Eastern Montana State Normal School in Billings, and became an elementary school teacher. In 1937, she married Wayne Fenner, a mining engineer. They had three sons. She taught at Cardwell, MT until the family moved to California in 1952. They lived in Watsonville, Calif., and she taught at Salsipuedes Elementary School and Moss Landing...

Growing up in Miami, Flandorfer spent most weekends and summers outdoors in the Everglades, or on the water soaking up the rich color and beauty of the tropical landscape. He moved with his family to Ocean Springs, Mississippi for a brief period before moving out to California where he has lived for over 20 years. Mostly self-taught, he was forever drawing and sketching as a kid, but the beautiful landscape and rich artistic heritage of the Monterey Peninsula's artist colony that was the deciding influence on his later works.
