ARTIST: John Speirs (1942-2022) South African / British
TITLE: 'Swift Swift"

NOTES: Schooled in Cape Town South Africa where he met fellow artist Irma Stern. He later achieved a schedolarhsip to the Slade School Of Art in London. After graduating from there he went to America with his family in 1978 to work as a catwalk designer for British Fashion Week. He stayed for an extended period before returning with his family to London where he exhibited paintings at the Hay Hill Galleries in Cork Street as well as institutions like the Royal Society of Portrait Painters & The Fine Art Society in Bond Street. A multi skilled artist from illustration to impressionist landscapes (Speirs painted extensively in France) he was a wonderful painter who sadly died in 2022 in his London home. This work from his Hay Hill Gallery exhibition in Cork Street London circa 2010 - labelled verso.
