About the Item
"Don't Fence Me In" is an original oil painting by Lynn Rowan Myers (1933 - 2008). A colorful southwestern landscape is depicted with Myers signature red showing through.
Lynn Rowan Myers began painting after already achieving a career in teaching and raising a family. After career counseling guided her to art or gardening she decided to give art a try with a three-year experiment. If she did not find success she would return to teaching.
Myer's paintings, which have influences of Matisse and the Fauve artists of the 1900s, were well received. Myer's technique of first washing her canvases in red brings drama to her work. The use of red as a middle tone allows her to use rich dark colors to tell her story. She also employs much of what she learned for Kim English, whom she studied with for many years, in her paintings.
