19th century English Antique Victorian Summertime Harvest landscape, with figures.
John Mundell was a British painter of landscapes as well as river scenes and coastal views. It is suggested that Mundell was a pseudonym of John James Wilson. Mundell’s work was vigorous, bright, and attractive and compares favorably with the work of many of the better artists of his time.
This is a very fine example of the artist's work. It is a rare composition for the artist as he mostly painted marines.

Description : The Reverend Robert Woodley-Brown was one of those early English landscape painters whose style is so distinct that it is nearly impossible not to be able to instantly recognize his work. This one is no exception.; His paintings remind me of the old movie, “Shangri-La,” where the travelers found a magical place while crossing the Himalayas. The Reverend’s paintings have that kind of magic in them; perhaps it’s his rich color palette or his slightly provincial, yet very Georgian style. It seems there are always pretty skies along with mountains in the background and rivers or lochs somewhere in his compositions. In any case, the result is still pure magic.; This is an accomplished yet charming painting by an artist thought to be actively painting from around 1810 to 1850 and specializing in the stunning scenery of England’s Lake District. Unfortunately, little is known about Reverend Brown’s personal life, and he did not sign most of his works. I have handled several of his paintings in the course of my career and he always has been among my favorite artists.; This gorgeous landscape delivers all of Reverend Woodley-Brown’s quintessential style, color and romantic feel for which his work is admired. His figures, though seemingly entranced themselves by the beauty around them, are there primarily to give scale and a focal point. The trees are in deep, rich greens, while the pink-tinged sky further show off his talent in the realm of color. We are immediately pulled into the artist’s world. The serenity of the scene, as in all of his works, is overwhelming, making the viewer a willing partner in the artist’s interpretation of it. A member of the second generation of Hudson River School painters, George Herbert McCord is known for his atmospheric landscape and marine paintings which capture a variety of locales and are executed in a variety of media—including oil, pastel, and watercolor. McCord was born in 1848 in New York City, where he lived and worked his entire life. After
1883, he kept an additional studio in Morristown, NJ. McCord traveled throughout North America, painting in the Berkshire, Adirondack and Laurentian mountain ranges, the Hudson River Valley, the Coast of New England, the Upper Mississippi, and Florida, which had become popular among Eastern vacationers. He was among a select group of artists commissioned by the Santa Fe Railroad to paint the Grand Canyon, and also participated in a special painting excursion to the Erie Canal. His travels in Europe were equally expansive, taking him to England, Scotland (having been commissioned by Andrew Carnegie to paint the scenery around his castle there), France, the Netherlands, and Italy.
McCord was well-educated, having attended Claverack College amidst the Catskills in Claverack, NY, which provided instruction in classical, French, German, English, music, painting, military, commercial, telegraphic and agricultural studies. He also studied with the accomplished painter and inventor of Morse code, Samuel F.B. Morse, and with the Scottishborn
landscape painter, James Fairman.

A beautiful winter landscape scene of a village covered in snow at sunset. A mother and son carry firewood back to their nearby cottage whilst other figures continue on home past the lake. In the distance, a church spire is silhouetted against the warm colours of the disappearing sun.
Nils or Niels Hans Christiansen was a well-accomplished painter born in Esbjerg in the Jutland peninsula of southwest Denmark on 22 July, 1850. He specialised in winter landscapes and moonlight scenes and was interested in the effects of light, often painting the sunrise and sunsets against his native land.
He first came to England in 1863 for the Royal Wedding of the Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandria. Although he worked mainly in Denmark and Norway, he spent some time in England where he is believed to have exhibited with many of the leading art galleries in London. In addition to exhibiting in England, Christiansen also exhibited in his home country at the Royal Academy of Copenhagen where he became a member.
He seems to have settled in England and on 10 September 1887 he married Alice Dickens at York Square, Stepney. Together the couple lived at 36 Dempsey Street, Mile End with their children. One of their sons, Albert Edward Christiansen (1887-1927) also became an artist. Christiansen’s success brought him royal connections and he was given a Grace and Favour apartment at Windsor by Queen Victoria. By 1901, he had become a British subject and had moved to 15 Queens Road in Plaistow, West Ham where he spent the rest of his life. He died in 1922 at Plaistow, aged 71.
His paintings are always beautifully drawn and with the inclusion of figures give added interest to the viewer. A number of his works can be found in museums and art collections in England including Epping Forest...

Stylish Hawaiian Luau Oil Painting by Listed artist Mario Larrinaga (1895-1979)

Mario Larrinaga was born in Baja California in 1895 and moved with his brother to Los Angeles in 1909. He had no formal training in art, but had natural talent that was noticed by local movie studios. He was hired by Universal Studios as a designer, art director and creator of background scenes. He produced some of the background effects for King Kong in 1933. After a career in set design and illustration he focused on painting for pleasure in California, Mexico and Hawaii. He belonged to local art clubs and exhibited his works often.
