A delightful original oil painting by the 20th century French Impressionist artist, Maurice Mazeilie. The painting has excellent provenance having come from the artists atelier sale in Paris.
Mazeilie lived and worked in Montmartre, with a studio on the famous Place du Tertre. His love of the coast led him to also maintain a studio on the Brittany coastline.
We have a very large collection of his paintings and look forward to offering them to you over the coming weeks.

Description:
This expressive 1986 oil on board titled Marée (meaning “Tide”) captures a dramatic moment along the French coast, where the sky glows with streaks of yellow and rose as the tide pulls gently from the harbour. A lighthouse stands at the center of the scene, surrounded by whitewashed buildings and small moored fishing boats bobbing in the shallows.
Painted by French artist Fanch Lel, this work features dynamic brushwork and a moody, storm-washed sky layered in shades of slate grey, lavender, and warm amber. The palette evokes the fleeting golden hour, as the low sun reflects off wet rocks and waterlogged docks. The boats in the foreground are rendered in deep rust, black, and marine blue, giving the composition a grounded, tactile quality.
