About the Item

Régis François Gignoux, a French-born artist trained at the Académie des Beaux-Arts under Paul-Hippolyte Delaroche, settled in New York and by 1844 opened a studio in the city, becoming one of the first members of the famed Tenth Street Studio alongside Bierstadt, Church, Cropsey, and Kensett.
