About the Item

Cuban born “Pozas” is a self-educated artist. After completing his studies in Electrical Engineering, he abandoned his career to dedicate himself entirely to painting. His first exhibitions in Cuba were done in impressionistic style but He later turned to hyperrealism/surrealism with landscape and nature as the focus—at which time his work is classified with the “Contemporary Cuban Painters” group. He exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Cuba where appreciation for his painting achieved international recognition. His work is included in collections in Italy, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico and the United States. In 1995, Pozas traveled to Madrid in Spain and decided to make it his home.
The person shown in the pictures is my wife. In them, I reflect on her desire to be alone with nature. Time is not important, only the place that choose to feel the peace she needs. Nature overflows in my work. To copy a landscape does not help me, for I am not satisfied with just that. I believe in the imagined, modeled landscape. Because nature is as interesting to discover as it is to imagine, there is always a place you thought of.
Each landscape is a dialogue of the person with the trees, the rivers, roads, hills, and seas. The shapes and the curves that draw the horizon, or the limit where they begin or end, and the forests, are eager to get out of the pictures.
Wind turbines are one of the things created by man that always attract my attention. I do not fight against them in my paintings, only I try to mimic their appearance and turn them into a kind more.

René Monzón Relova “Pozas”
b. 1966, Havana, Cuba René Monzón Relova, otherwise known as Pozas, was trained in Havana, Cuba as an Industrial Engineer, a profession he decided to put aside to devote himself entirely to painting. He exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Cuba where appreciation for his painting achieved international recognition. In 1995, Pozas traveled to Madrid, Spain and decided to make it his home. His first exhibitions in Cuba were done in impressionistic style but he later turned to hyperrealism/surrealism with landscape and nature as the focus. The self-taught artist’s initial impressionist work evolved focusing on the landscape as the main theme. Here he captured a photographic realism, where the light, serenity and depth of the imaginary fields envelop the viewer's gaze and invite him to abstract himself to discover how small we are. There is sometimes a lone person portrayed in his work, usually his wife or his son. Pozas places the figure in peaceful, nature filled environments, alone and in commune with nature. Sometimes the figure is not there at all, but just a feeling that they once stood in this place. Nature overflows in his work. To simply copy a landscape does not satisfy the artist. He believes in the imagined, modeled landscape of his dreams.

Mark Bowers- Artist Statement
With the depiction of landscape playing such a central role in the history of North American art, it seemed to offer many of the critical possibilities I was looking for, and it felt more and more like something I have always known. Something I could easily apply, stage, and manipulate as a diary.
My work consists of small-scale highly detailed landscape paintings. They are inspired by the comfort, trepidation, and beauty found in the mundane Chicago Suburbs. I combine nature, decorative house wares...

Life - New York City Original Aerial View Oil Painting on Canvas by Albert Vidal
By Albert Vidal Moreno
Located in Chicago, IL
This painting of New York City's Chrysler Building captures a wide swath of Manhattan from an areal view. Using palette knife and brush Albert Vidal manages to combine realist painting with abstraction. Splashes of bright blue, red and green paint graffiti the surface in a Jackson Pollack like effect. The numbers at the bottom of the painting represent the artist's signature. This artwork is framed in a simple black wood float.

Albert Vidal is an aerial urban landscapes painter based in Barcelona, Spain. He has painted mostly landscapes from around the world for over 20 years and is inspired by artists such as Antonio Lopez Garcia and Anselm Kiefer. The artist thinks about his compositions in a three dimensional way with paint relief that creates dimension and body in the piece. The emptiness which represents a sea or wasteland keep the balance of the composition as well as the ensemble. The artificial space Vidal creates evolves over time and explores the difference between cities, urban planning, and their structures.

Tricks - Original Oil Painting, Anthropomorphic Scene with Cat and Seagull
By Wendy Vaughan
Located in Chicago, IL
In this fantastical painting animals reign supreme. An enrobed cat observes/directs as a seagull deftly flies through a suspended hoop. Wendy Vaughan seems to infuse her artwork with mystical powers. Backgrounds are layered with symbols and clothing vibrates with magical floating shapes. Her choice of colors are punched up to a level of saturation as to make her work seem otherworldly. Prominent colors in this painting are bright blues in the water, soft oranges in the cat's fur, and purple, gold and pink in the cat's garment. This artwork is framed in dark wood with painted gold inset.

Wisdom Trumps Violence - Surreal Oil Painting with a Leopard, an Owl, and a Man
By Christopher Klein
Located in Chicago, IL
Toying (e.g., rider on toy horse) with violent threats is not wise. The sounds (e.g., horn) of violence (e.g., spear and leopard) will never overtake wisdom (e.g., owl and pearl). This masterfully painted surrealist artwork draws in the viewer with its extraordinary detail. The artwork is framed.
