About the Item

The ancient wooden buildings in Kolomenskoye attracted my attention as a child. This Mokhovaya tower is one of the seven towers of the Sumy fort. Initially, the fort was erected in the 1580s in the Pomeranian possessions of the Solovetsky Monastery. Ostrog repelled Swedish attacks many times. In 1931, on the initiative of Pyotr Baranovsky, the dilapidated Mokhovaya Tower was transported to Kolomenskoye. I chose a motif with a view of the tower through the foreground of trees already starting to turn green. Being in the shadows, the viewer is gradually immersed in the environment of the picture, approaching the historical object. The tower stands on a slight elevation, which allows it to be correlated with a defensive structure. Exhibitions: 2015 “The Artist’s Palette. Simon Kozhin. Ever since childhood, I have been fond of the Middle Ages, especially the fortresses. This fortification is the best preserved. A panoramic view of it opens from the Dniester estuary. Delicate shades of old stone and a clear geometric pattern with harmonious proportions. The simplicity of the white sky allows the viewer to focus their attention on the central subject, the church, and the harmonious interaction between man-made structures and the natural world. The overall atmosphere of the painting is one of stillness and anticipation, capturing a moment in time when a village church is undergoing its transformation. The title, "Ryabushki Village and Church," hints at the rural setting, inviting viewers to imagine the quaint and idyllic village that the church is nestled within.
