About the Item
Fresh and superbly painted, near East Hampton, Long Island, Gardiner’s Bay is a mid summer sailing scene that captures an expansive view of water and sky and the white of distant sailboats. Parkes often painted different locales in the Hamptons and has avidly been collected over the years for these fresh, plein air landscapes and seascapes.
The piece actually makes you feel present in the scene. It has recently been reframed into a lovely float frame of white lacquer and 23 karat silvered leaf.
Parkes often painted in this area but is known for his artist trips to other locals including Maine and abroad.

Boothbay Harbor, Maine from the Hill
Located in New York, NY
Best known for his painterly landscape views, Oberteuffer developed a fresh and vigorous style, using a subdued color palette with agile brushstrokes that was influenced by French Impressionism. Boothbay Harbor from the Hill is a wonderful example of this style of painting and shows Oberteuffer’s mastery of subtle color. It is an added plus that Oberteuffer has specifically referenced a clearly identifiable locale- Boothbay Harbor- in his title and additionally denoted that the view was painted from the hillside, potentially capturing actual homes and buildings of the time.
Framed in a Gold Leaf Whistler style frame of exceptional quality. The painting has vivid and fresh color and creates a window in any room.
The canvas inside the frame measures 30 x 24 inches.
Signed: Oberteuffer lower right
Provenance: Estate of George Oberteuffer...
