About the Item
A masterful oil painting depicting a view of a Venice Canal by T.E. Pencke. As an Impressionist and orientalist painter, he was known for his detailed works depicting scenes from daily life and of the marine scenes. He also created numerous views of Venice during his stays there. This piece is a pertinent example of the works produced during that time with the use of a rich color pallet, and also the layers of paint is what gives this work such a stunning representation of Venice. The gondolas and the sail boats sit effortlessly on the water, as the light from the clouds fades away in the breeze. In the waterway he uses flecks of light dashed onto the waves to capture the reflection of the city and the brilliant blue sky and puffed clouds, creating a joy for the viewer to experience. The painting is signed lower left by the artist and it comes housed an antique style carved frame and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
