This artwork "Winter Landscape" c. 1940 in an oil painting on Masonite by noted Hungarian/American artist Theodore (Ted) Kautzsky 1896-1953 It is signed at the lower right corner. The size of the artwork is 15.25 x 20.85 inches, framed is 20.5 x 26.5 inches. It is framed in a wooden gold frame. It is in very good condition. About the artist: Born in Budapest, Hungary, Theodore Kautsky became a noted watercolorist of landscapes and marine scenes. He received an architectural degree from the Royal University of Hungary. In 1923, he emigrated to the United States and worked as an architect for the New York City Parks Department. He also taught art at Pratt Institute, New York University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Toronto. His watercolors became widely known through exhibitions and his books on drawing and watercolor painting. The work of Ted Kautzsky is held in numerous collections, museums including the Smithsonian Museum of Art. About the artist: Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1856, Frank joseph Girardin began his art instruction in 1870 under Frank Noble and later Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. A semi-pro baseball player in Cincinnati, he was best known for his beautiful landscapes of both Indiana and California. An extremely active participant in the development of the Art Association of Richmond and original member of the local Sketch Club, he served on the Board of Directors of Art Association for several years. He was considered ranked next to the late John E. Bundy in talent and skill by the former Art Association Director, Mrs. Ella Bond Johnston. It was during his time in Indiana, that he received the most recognition for his work. In 1903, he won first prize for his painting, "Lingering Snow" at the Cincinnati Art Club Show.
