About the Item

"Dawn's Exhale, Psalm 25:5" (2025) by Thomas Kegler is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts a meandering river softly lit by a brilliant sunrise. About the artist: Thomas Kegler’s growing volume of work, considered to be among the most influential of our time, embodies a confident humility obtained from a life spent outdoors. An internationally recognized artist, Thomas is a self-taught realist painter and accomplished educational film producer. He is also a renowned art educator and champion of future artists, young and old. The wilds of New York State and a close-knit family of designers and entrepreneurs shaped his early love of art and the outdoors. Fly fishing and guiding in Alaska’s backcountry cemented his pursuit of a life path illuminated by sunlight more often than lamplight. The grandeur of the American West has proven to be an insatiable muse for the past several years. His work draws on the techniques and sensibilities of the Hudson River school, Tonalism and Lumanism movements of the mid-1800's. Each piece celebrates the grandeur and mystery of God's creation through careful attention to often-overlooked subtleties. Thomas is recognized as a top artist among many national organizations and has been featured in numerous publications. His work is showcased in galleries, collections, and publications worldwide. Thomas lives in Western New York with his children.

"Searching for Sunrise" Oil painting
Located in Denver, CO
Todd Carpenter's (US based) "Searching for Sunrise" is an oil painting that depicts a black and white landscape with vast mountains and valleys echoing the swirling motion of the clouds overhead Bio/artist statement: Todd Carpenter is a Los Angeles based artist who uses black and white paint to explore the perception of space and beauty. Carpenter's formal education is in science - he holds a MS in Neuroscience from UCSD and a BS in Psychobiology from UCLA - and he brings this background into service when making art. His paintings explore the mechanisms of perception and aesthetics, examining among other things how the depiction of light can impart realism and convey emotion. Like his paintings bridging art and science, Carpenter's career has similarly straddled the two fields, and he has taught subjects ranging from neuroscience and environmental science to photography and painting. Artist Statement As a painter, I am particularly interested in how the depiction of light contributes to our experience of paintings. Painting, as with any visual art, is obviously dependent on light. But painting can also have a more specific connection in that the accurate depiction of light is crucial for achieving realism. Realism in paintings largely arises from the portrayal of depth - perceiving a painting as being realistic is equivalent to seeing its subject as existing in more than just the two dimensions of the picture plane - and one of the mechanisms by which humans perceive depth is through lighting cues. Light creates features such as shading, shadow, and contrast that tell us about the three-dimensional arrangement of our surroundings, and artists often use these features to impart realism to paintings. Light also factors in to the emotional impact of paintings. The differential illumination of our surroundings can evoke different moods, as evidenced by the influence sunsets, candlelight, and darkness can have on us. Such effectssuggest that our perception of light could be tied to primitive instincts, with light signaling factors such as shelter, nightfall, and warmth, which were once crucial for survival. The depiction of light in...

Impression Sunrise 2021, Lee Tiller, Original Realist Landscape Water Painting
By Lee Tiller
Located in Deddington, GB
Impression Sunrise 2021 [2021] original Oil on stretched canvas Image size: H:60 cm x W:80 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:60 cm x W:80 cm x D:2cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look Lee paints in the tradition of the original impressionist painters. There is more than a mere passing nod to some of the greatest artists of the impressionist movement. Claude Monet's famous 1872 painting ‘Impression, Sunrise’ gave birth to the movement’s name. In his sketchy, ethereal painting, modern industry of the time can be seen to the left in the form of chimney stacks bellowing plumes of smoke into the morning air. To the right, iron cranes stand silent and ghostly against a pale violet grey sky. The Impressionist painters would never compromise their art by concealing modernity and industry of the time, and would rather incorporate it into the landscape for accuracy. Little did they know that when Monet painted his canvas he was capturing the embryonic stages of what we refer to as climate change today. ‘Sunrise Impression 2021’ is the first in a series of paintings that Lee has created where he explores the contemporary landscape including elements of modernity. In his painting ‘Impression Sunrise 2021’, gone are the smouldering chimney stacks and industrial cranes...
