This techniques relies on the ability of the eye and mind of the viewer to blend the colour spots into a fuller range of tones. The practice of Pointillism lies in sharp contrast to the traditional methods of blending pigments on a palette. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism.
