About the Item
Painting is dated November 1980. Signed on the back!
Born in 1923 in New Jersey, Morrell attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art and Drexel University in Philadelphia. Morrell worked as a commercial designer for John Oldham Studios in Wethersfield, Connecticut, a company that made exhibits for the United Aircraft Corporation and other space technology companies.
Mainly self-taught, Morrell began painting with a focus on murals. The success of his first exhibition led to his leaving his job as a commercial designer, in the 1960s, to pursue fine art full-time. Morrell lived and worked in Rockport, Massachusetts, where he had a gallery on Main Street.
He was a member of the Salmagundi Club; Rockport Art Association; Springfield Academy of Artists; and Allied Artists of America. Morrell’s personal life and the sites of New England provided subject matter for his paintings. In addition to his extensive exhibition record and inclusion in numerous private and public collections, Wayne Morrell’s work has been featured in many national publications and major magazines.
