Alexandra Manukyan
Alexandra Manukyan (b. 1963) is an Armenian-American artist whose figurative oil paintings merge Old Master techniques with contemporary symbolism and surrealist elements. Following extensive art training in Armenia and a successful two-decade career in fashion and graphic design after immigrating to Los Angeles in 1990, Manukyan transitioned to painting full-time in 2012. Her meticulously rendered works—predominantly in oil on Belgian linen—feature powerful female figures adorned in elaborate costumes personally designed and constructed by the artist. Through a distinctive "dramatic union of contrasts," Manukyan's paintings explore human connection, feminine strength, and humanity's relationship with the natural world. Her work has been widely exhibited at galleries specializing in contemporary representational art, including Abend Gallery, Copro Gallery, and Corey Helford Gallery, and has been recognized through prominent competitions like the Art Renewal Center Salon.

“By his own account, the most ambitious work of Michallon’s career was a thirty-foot canvas depicting Noah’s Ark, which he exhibited in the Salon of 1875, where it went unmentioned by the critics. This stunning exhibited nude portrait oil painting is by noted British Newlyn School artist Harold Knight. `The Maiden` was painted at Dozmary. The Belgrave Gallery catalogue 1986 suggests the sitter is in fact his wife, Laura Knight the noted artist. The sensuous understanding of the flesh tones and anatomy reveals the qualities that established Knight's reputation as a leading portrait painter after the War. This picture may be dated to c.1916. A really lovely portrait by a much sought after artist. Signed lower left.
