Artist Biography -
Kevans’ paintings reflect her interests in power, manipulation and the role of the individual in inherited belief systems. She looks at alternative histories and how they relate to current issues and creates what she describes as ‘anti-portraits’ that may or may not be based on real documentation. She believes that, as her work is concept driven, sometimes the actual similarity to the person depicted in the work is irrelevant. This can be seen in her 'Boys' series which is not about portraying dictators as they really looked as children but rather about the notion of the ‘innocent child’ which has influenced images of children in art since the Victorian times. Kevans believes that a person’s identity is not preset but is a shifting temporary construction and her work questions our verdicts on history and perceptions of intellectual solidity.

Annie Kevans
Danziger Gallery is pleased to announce our representation of the acclaimed British painter Annie Kevans. Known for the originality of her ideas as well as the deftness and beauty of her brushstrokes, since 2004 Kevans has produced multiple series of portraits with provocative historical, social, or political concepts. Kevans’ place in the British art world started at art school when her series, “Boys”, was bought by Charles Saatchi from her 2004 Central St. Martins School of Art degree show. The series was subsequently exhibited in its entirety at the Saatchi Gallery as part of the exhibition “Paper”. Kevans has exhibited in group shows at leading museums including the Barbican Art Gallery, the Royal Academy, the Grand Palais, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, and the Marres Centre for Contemporary Art in Maastricht. Her work can be found in major collections, including the Pallant House Gallery, the David Roberts Collection, 21c Museum, as well as in the collections of Lord Rothermere, Marc Quinn, and Jean Pigozzi.

Antonio Lopez Biography -
The foremost fashion illustrator of the 1970s and 80s, Antonio (as he signed his work) was and remains one of the most highly regarded and influential figures in the fashion world. While not initially known as a photographer, Antonio was rarely without his favorite Instamatic camera, and as his career progressed he turned increasingly to photography to create fashion stories, portraits, and elaborate mise-en-scènes.
A serial Svengali, as the writer Karin Nelson noted: “Lopez brilliantly transformed the women in his world. Under his tutelage, Jerry Hall, a long tall Texan he met at Paris’s Club Sept, evolved into a golden goddess. He put Jessica Lange in gold lamé evening dresses after discovering her in Paris studying mime, and gave aspiring model Tina Lutz her start (and an introduction to future husband Michael...
