Meyer Kupferman(1926-2003):
Was a versatile and eclectic composer who incorporated diverse elements in his works, from aleatoric music and jazz to Impressionism, from serial music and atonality to Romanticism. He wrote works in most genres, including opera, ballet, symphonies, concertos, film scores, chamber, vocal, and choral music.
Kupferman was born in New York City on July 3, 1926. He exhibited talent as a child, first showing interest in the violin but then taking up the clarinet at age 10. He soon taught himself piano, as well, and then later studied music at New York's High School of Music and Art. Though he pursued music studies at Queens College, he learned composition on his own.
Around the mid-'40s Kupferman served as an arranger for several jazz bands. His first opera, In a Garden (1948), drew considerable attention at its first performances at the Tanglewood Festival and later at the Edinburgh Festival. In 1951 he joined the faculty at Sarah Lawrence College, teaching composition and chamber music. He eventually became chairman of the music department...

'Portrait of British Naval Officer' is attributed to the British painter and engraver Daniel Orme (1766-c.1832) based on the scratched inscription verso, as well as its similarity to Orme’s known engraving oeuvre. The oil on tin portrait bears the scratched inscription “D. Orme” verso, which in the absence of contravening evidence as to the artist is significant in attributing the work to Orme. Katherine Coombs, Curator of Paintings at the Word & Image Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the writer of the Dictionary of National Biography article on Orme, states that Orme is “so obscure an artist that if his name is indeed scratched on the [tin] that seems good evidence for it being so.” Additionally, Orme’s stipple engravings of prominent naval figures in oval, including John Hunter in 1792, Horatio Nelson in 1798, among others at the National Portrait Gallery, London are consistent with the style and composition of the portrait. Roger Quarm, Curator of Paintings at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich notes that Orme’s “engraved portraits of naval officers tend to be oval”. Orme is known to have issued a series of engravings by subscription that included portraits of popular naval Admirals and Officers in 1797. Two oils in the collection of the National Maritime Museum, also demonstrate Orme’s execution of naval subject matter.
The sitter has been identified as a lieutenant in the British Navy wearing the “full-dress uniform for the period 1787-1812,” according to Roger Quarm. Alfred Umhey has confirmed this identification of the sitter as a “lieutenant in the uniform pattern 1787-1795, which is however worn post that date.” The medal worn around the sitter’s neck has been identified as the Sultan’s Medal for Egypt issued in 1801, by both Quarm and Umhey. This superb Art Deco portrait oil painting is by noted Scottish artist Cowan Dobson. Painted in 1923 it is a really light and bright portrait of a young boy. The light catching his white shirt and face illuminate him beautifully as his blue eyes gaze at the artist/viewer. The brushwork, for example on his hair and shirt are superb. This stunning portrait is finished off in a gorgeous original frame. A excellent example of Cowan Dobson's work.

David Cowan Dobson (1894–1980), referred to as 'Cowan' Dobson ARBA (1919), RBA (1922), was a leading Scottish portrait artist of his day. Dobson was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, the second son of the Scottish portrait painter Henry John Dobson (1858–1928).Dobson started his career in Scotland. He was educated at George Watson's College in Edinburgh and studied art in Edinburgh, London and Paris. In 1918 he was using his father's studio at Dalry. Around 1920 he moved to London and from then on he worked and resided mainly in London. Occasionally, he would work in and around Glasgow. He is said to have rented Kenmure Castle, in New Galloway, Kirkcudbrightshire, in the 1930s and 1940s to entertain and paint fashionable sitters. Dobson mainly worked in oils but also painted some fine water-colour scenes. He painted in the tradition of the academic nineteenth century with mostly a rather darker colour scheme, while his brother Henry, influenced by the Modernist movement in Edinburgh, painted more colourful portraits. Although he painted some fine portraits of well known men, like Earl Attlee, Earl Beatty and Harold Wilson, Dobson also portrayed "fashionable London ladies". Dobson was married to Phyllis Bowyer, who was the brains behind his financial success. She made Dobson one of London's leading society portrait painters. She herself sat for the photographer Alexander Bassano, the resulting portrait now being at the National Portrait Gallery, London. During World War I, Dobson was commissioned by the Royal Air Force section of the Imperial War Museum to paint portraits of three recipients of the Victoria Cross. Dobson painted portraits of Lt. Col. L.W. Brabazon Rees, Sgt Mottershead and Flight Lt. A.W. Beauchamps-Proctor. Dobson first exhibited at Royal Academy when aged only nineteen and began showing at the Royal Scottish Academy four years later. Dobson's works were also exhibited at the Royal Society of Arts, Royal Society of Water-colourers, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Cambrian Academy, Fine Art Society and at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Dobson enjoyed significant commercial success and thirty-six of his paintings, almost all portraits, are held in UK public collections including Glasgow Museums, The National Galleries of Scotland, Imperial War Museum, Paisley Art...

Born and brought up in Mumbai,India, Tanvi Pathare showed a growing interest in Fine Arts since a very early age. Encouraged by family,she began her art education at the prestigious Sir J.J.School of Art in Mumbai and received her Bachelors in Fine Arts(Painting) with outstanding grades,topping the University.
After being allured by the Realistic tradition of painting from nature, Tanvi applied and was Accepted At the Florence Academy Of Art, Florence, Italy(FAA).
Here she was honored By the Best Painting Of the Year from the Intermediate Studio of the School among other awards. She taught in the Academy in their Sculpture Drawing Studio.She was awarded for her Outstanding Performance in Art in her final academic year.
