About the Item

An abstract oil painting of flowers on two canvases. The lefthand canvas is full of dense impasto brushstrokes covering the full canvas and creating an undeniable sense of movement. In contrast, the righthand canvas feels very still and quiet, with one tulip reaching across the canvas diagonally to the right. Most of the right canvas shows bare gessoed linen, the uniform texture and the way the petals of the flower touch the sides of the composition deepen the almost sterile stillness. The lefthand canvas feels bursting with life, the patch of black make the viewer feel like the space behind the flowers could go on forever. These paintings are made to be hung together and are bolted together on the back, however they can be separated and spaced out if desired. Unframed dimensions 36 in x 48 in Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own. Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole. Flower Study 1 (16.5.17) - Original Textured Abstract Floral Oil Painting
By Sally West
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This original floral painting by Sally West showcases lush impasto roses and blossoms in a textured, abstract bouquet—ideal for collectors seeking expressive contemporary flower art with rich oil paint. Using her signature palette knife style, West builds each petal and leaf with thick, dynamic strokes, blending soft pastels with vibrant reds, blues, and greens. The composition feels both spontaneous and refined, offering a joyful and tactile celebration of nature in full bloom. What makes Sally West’s original oil paintings so recognizable is the combination of texture, abstraction, and calming colors. The movement of the paint strokes on canvas is reminiscent of a light breeze or waves. Each painting is completed in one day, with the date present in the title. West's pieces take at least eight weeks to completely dry. Once dry, the thick paint takes on an almost sculptural effect. Overall, West’s color palette is uniquely her own, conveying a very specific feeling of comfort associated with familiarity and softness. This one-of-a-kind 16 inches tall by 20 inches wide artwork is painted with thick, textural oil paint on canvas. It is wired and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the front lower right corner as well as the back. The sides of this artwork are painted, and it is ready to hang. Convenient local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included. Sally West was born in West Wyalong, Central New South Wales. West grew up on a farm and, as a teenager, moved to Eastern Sydney for school. Throughout her life, she has traveled through and lived in both Europe and South East Asia to gain inspiration for her artwork. Although her international journeys have acted as an influence on her style, the subjects of her paintings are very close to home. The subjects of all of her paintings exist in an infinite timeline but only in the location of Eastern Australia. Since West’s first breakthrough solo exhibition in New York in 2011, her artworks have become highly sought after internationally. She has won and placed as a finalist in numerous worldwide art competitions and juried exhibitions throughout her career. Her artworks are exhibited in influential galleries across Australia and the USA. Artplex Gallery has been representing and exhibiting Sally West's original artworks since 2019.
