About the Item

The Cape Town artist, Mark Midgley, is originally from Leeds in the UK. He moved to South Africa in 1979, where he started a silkscreen venture and began a career as an illustrator and designer. Mark’s fascination with fruit and vegetables as a subject for his art started when he was a part-time student at Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town: “Whilst on my walkabout round the streets of Cape Town I was totally captivated by the orgy of colours, shades and textures at the Salt River fruit and vegetable market. His paintings are alive with colour, texture and the unique sun kissed warmth of Cape Town. He has had many exhibtion of still life fruit and vegetables and now paints exclusively on a commission only basis.
