Summer Memory in Laguna Beach #4
Located in Laguna Beach, CA
If Jian Wang is to claim a style, it lies in his approach to painting. Distinguished by his ability to reconfigure the elements of a composition to his own vision, he virtually sculpts the image using energetic brush strokes and thick, buttery oil paint. “My style involves tremendous physicality and emotion,” he says. “I have a simple palette of eight colors, which I combine right on the canvas. I’m careful with my gestures; I carry many colors in a single brush stroke.” His work, influenced significantly by realism with an impressionist inference, is influenced both by the landscape and by contemporary artists such as Fred Dalkey...

"TWISTS AND TURNS" BIG SKY CLOUD FORMATION
Located in San Antonio, TX
C.S. Steve Talley Fredericksburg Texas & Santa Fe New Mexico Artist Image Size: 12 x 16 Frame Size: 16 x 20 Medium: Oil "Twists and Turns" C. S. “Steve” Talley developed an art interest not long after graduating with a degree in astronomy/physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978. Juggling a career in the sciences and ultimately computer programming, his art skills continued to improve by taking workshops from primarily plein air artists. Talley’s style of impressionistic realism continues to evolve as he explores color from bold to tonalist. He takes artistic license to push a color or include a compositional element to accomplish his goal of creating the intangible “strong emotional content”. Beginning as a portrait painter he has evolved to become primarily a western landscape painter. He also enjoys painting astronomical and religious themes. His main influences come from Paul Strisik, Will Sparks...

Jim’s of Lambertville Fine Art Gallery is proud to offer this piece by Johann Berthelsen (1883 – 1972). After his parents divorced, his mother brought Berthelsen and his siblings with her to the United States in 1890, eventually settling in Wisconsin. At eighteen, Berthelsen moved to Chicago in the hope of becoming an actor, but a friend at the Chicago Musical College convinced him to audition at his school. Berthelsen received a full scholarship and enrolled at the college, where he was awarded the Gold Medal twice. After graduating, he had an active career traveling across the United States and Canada performing in operas and concerts, before joining the voice faculty at his alma mater in 1910. In 1913, Berthelsen became the voice department director at the Indianapolis Conservatory of Music. While in Chicago, Berthelsen met the landscape painter, Svend Svendsen...

"Woman Dressing"
Located in Lambertville, NJ
Jim’s of Lambertville Fine Art Gallery is proud to offer this work by Frederick Carl Frieseke (1874 – 1939). Frederick Carl Frieseke was a member of the third generation of American painters to inhabit and find inspiration from Giverny, France. His use of bright colors and light, to depict the female figure, defined the style of the Giverny group during his residence, synthesizing aspects of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Born in the United States, Frieseke studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York. In 1898, he moved to Paris to enroll in the Académie Julian, where he studied under Benjamin Constant and Jean-Paul Laurens. During this time, Frieseke also briefly studied with James A. Whistler, who would prove to be a great inspiration in Frieseke’s early works. From Whistler, Frieseke adopted a tonalist palette and a decorative approach to figurative painting. While in Paris, Frieseke’s works were featured at the American Art Association of Paris and in several annual salon exhibitions. His painting, “Before the Mirror...
