'Untitled' original 1960s signed serigraph silver abstract vintage train pop art
Located in Milwaukee, WI
In this untitled serigraph, Vincent DiMattio combines the aesthetics of the space age with Pop Art sensibilities and techniques. In the postwar era of the 1950s and 1960s, the United States was in the midst of a period of economic growth for the middle class, and so the trappings and imagery of middle class life became the subjects of a number of artists. While figures like Andy Warhol focused on images of celebrities and soup cans, here DiMattio looks to robots and rockets. At the far left, a figure appears with a round green head and a small clamping arm. To the right, a form like a tank with phallic protrusions, one with a head like the form of a space ship. These signs all alight with the space age toys...

PAUL SALTZMAN (1943) is a Canadian film and television producer, photographer, and director. A two-time Emmy Award-recipient, he has been credited on more than 300 films, both dramas and documentaries. In 1968, at the age of 23, he traveled to India for the first time as sound engineer on the National Film Board of Canada's Juggernaut documentary. He studied meditation to recover after his girlfriend had broken up with him, by mail. He learned meditation at the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram in the holy city of Rishikesh, India, The Beatles were coincidentally also visiting the ashram. He saw them sitting at a table and asked to join them. Paul McCartney drew up a chair. While there, he spent time with and photographed the Beatles, Donovan, Mia and Prudence Farrow and Mike Love. His photos have been judged "some of the best intimate shots" ever taken of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, and have been seen in galleries worldwide. A permanent exhibition of his The Beatles in India photographs...

La Grande Occassione Della Pittura Americana Milano (Hand Signed by Jim Dine), 1963
Offset Lithograph invitation poster (hand signed by Jim Dine)
Hand signed by Jim Dine on the front -signed in person for the present owner, so provenance is direct.
12 1/4 × 16 3/4 inches

Uniquely signed. The gallery acquired this historic 1963 invitation and then Jim Dine graciously signed it years later in black marker - as he was/is the only artist of the entire group who was still alive. We know of no other one in the entire world with any hand signature by any of the artists exhibited. This very rare invitation/poster was published on the occasion of this important 1963 exhibition of American painting at the Galleria Ariete, Mostra n. 94, in Milan, Italy. The roster of artists represented is literally a Who's Who of American Abstract Expressionists of the era. The Galleria dell'Ariete in Milan, Italy, opened in 1955, and ran an active exhibition until its closing in the mid-1980s. It was among the most important galleries in Italy for contemporary art, and had extensive connections with dealers, collectors, artists, and critics in Europe, the United States, and Japan. Beatrice Monti della Corte opened the Galleria dell'Ariete at Via San Andrea, 5, Milan, Italy in 1955, when she was twenty-five years old, principally as a showplace for modern art; Galleria dell'Ariete rapidly became one of the foremost Italian galleries...

Ushio Shinohara (born 1932, Tokyo), nicknamed “Gyu-chan”, is a Japanese Neo-Dadaist artist. His bright, large work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, the Guggenheim Museum SoHo, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Leo Castelli Gallery, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Seoul and others. Shinohara and his wife, Noriko, are the subjects of a documentary film by Zachary Heinzerling called Cutie and the Boxer (2013).
Shinohara's parents instilled in him a love for painters such as Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. His father was a tanka poet who was taught by Wakayama Bokusui. Shinohara’s mother was a painter who went to the Woman’s Art University (Joshibijutsu Daigaku) in Tokyo.
In 1952 Shinohara entered the Tokyo Art University (later renamed to Tokyo University of the Arts), majoring in oil painting, however he left before graduation in 1957.
In 1960 Shinohara participated in a group called "Neo-Dada Organizers". (Masunobu Yoshimura, Genpei Akasegawa, Shusaku Arakawa, Ushio Shinohara, Sho Kazakura, Tomio Miki, Tetsumi Kudo...

Peter Saul
Golden Gate Bridge, 1968
Five color lithograph on German etching paper with deckled edges with collectors press chop mark
Hand signed, titled and numbered "Artist Proof" lower front; also bears Collector's Press chop mark, and chop mark of master printer Tony Ko
Frame Included: floated and framed in the original wood frame
Provenance: from the Estate of the legendary California artist, Roy DeForest
Accompanied by a copy of the publisher's documentation sheet (see image)
Also accompanied by gallery issued Certificate of Guarantee
This work is one of three hand signed Artist's Proofs, aside from the regular edition of 50. It is one of Peter Saul's most celebrated prints; the not so subtle at all symbolism speaks for itself, such as the gigantic dollar sign and wagging tongue (money talks loudly), set against San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate bridge.
This print does not often appear on the market, as so many from this edition are already in the permanent collection of major museums and institutions.
Other examples of this work were featured in the exhibitions:
"Print Retrospective, 1966-2010", from September 16 – December 22, 2011 at the Carl Solway Gallery in Ohio, and "Peter Saul: Prints and Drawings, 1960 -1975", from February 26 – April 11, 2009, at The George Adams Gallery...

About the Artist: Tom Wesselmann (1931–2004) was an American Pop artist best known for his collages, sculptures, and screenprints that stylized the female figure. Often isolating segments of the body—red lips with a cigarette, a single nipple, or a stylish shoe—his artworks aim was to seize a viewer’s attention. “The prime mission of my art, in the beginning, and continuing still, is to make figurative art as exciting as abstract art,” he once said of his work. Born on February 23, 1931 in Cincinnati, OH, he was drafted into the US Army to serve in the Korean War in 1952. Returning home after the war, he studied drawing at the Art Academy of Cincinnati before working as an illustrator of comic strips and men’s magazines...

Unnumbered (unknown edition)
BILLY NAME (Photographer)
William George Linich (February 22, 1940 – July 18, 2016), known professionally as Billy Name, was an American photographer, filmmaker, and lighting designer. He was the archivist of The Factory from 1964 to 1970. His brief romance and subsequent friendship with Andy Warhol led to substantial collaboration on Warhol's work, including his films, paintings, and sculptures. Linich became Billy Name among the clique known as the Warhol superstars. He was responsible for "silverizing" Warhol's New York studio, the Factory, where he lived until 1970. His photographs of the scene at the Factory and of Warhol are important documents of the pop art era
VIVA
Janet Susan Mary Hoffmann (born August 23, 1938), known professionally as Viva, is an American actress, writer and former Warhol superstar. She was given the name Viva by Andy Warhol before the release of her first film but later used her married last name (Auder). She appeared in several of Warhol's films and was a frequent guest at the Factory. Viva was on the phone with Andy Warhol when he was shot by Valerie Solanas in 1968

Some Los Angeles Apartments - True, Stated 1st Edition of only 700 Artist Book
By Ed Ruscha
Located in New York, NY
Ed Ruscha
Some Los Angeles Apartments (Unsigned), 1965
True First Edition Artist Book: Stated Limited Edition of only 700
7 × 5 1/2 inches
Unframed
A rare and elusive 1960s Artist Book. Makes a terrific gift. This is a TRUE 1965 1st Edition of only 700 stated copies. (NOT to be confused with the second edition in 1970 which was published in a much larger edition of 3000 and NOT to be confused with an eponymous 1990 Whitney Museum publication.) A must have for Ruscha Fans. SOME LOS ANGELES APARTMENTS. Los Angeles: Self-Published, 1965. True First Edition Printed Wrappers with Glassine. Original Artist's Book. This marvelous vintage 1965 48 page book features 34 black and white illustrations and is in surprisingly fine condition. "Some Los Angeles Apartments" is Ed Ruscha's third artist book - a wry yet heartfelt photographic survey of the subtle beauty of the post-war Southern California rental property construction boom. A spectacularly bright, most handsome example of the uncommon 1965 first edition (entry B3 in Siri Engberg's "Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999" which is also cited on page 141 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume II", pages 198-201 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 105 of "From Fair to Fine 2", and page 226 of "From Fair to Fine 3") limited to seven hundred unnumbered copies. This is an exceptional example of this important little gem that is often confused with the 1990 Whitney Museum exhibition catalogue of virtually the same title.
"In the 1960s, Ed Ruscha more or less reinvented the artist’s book. By turning away from the craftsmanship and luxury status that typified the livre d’artiste in favor of the artistic idea or concept, expressed simply through photographs and text, Ruscha opened the genre to the possibilities of mass-production and distribution. Some Los Angeles Apartments, with its straightforward presentation of modern California domestic buildings, celebrated the vernacular architecture of Southern California."
The Getty Museum
"....It's perhaps fitting that Ed Ruscha - one of the central figures in late 20th century photography - does not consider himself a photographer. "I think photography is dead as a fine art," he told John Coplans...
